I'm all for filling the room with as much talent as we can muster, Smith would be a good get. So one guy is sought after almost immediately after being terminated while the other stays unemployed for 4 years after his dismissal...you're right, apples and oranges. Can the hydra collaborate to better the team, or will the three heads tangle themselves in knots trying to exert their influence over the discussions at hand? I'm all for bringing in as many talented staff members as we can, but part of that challenge is going to be structuring things in a way that everyone understands their role, and is allowed to do that part without being undermined or overruled.

I don't know what Baalke did in those 4 years. Maybe his contract was such that he could sit on the beach and make the same amount as if he had been working. Maybe he made it a learning period and he prepared himself for the Jaguars job. Fact of the matter is he's been employed as a Jag for a mere 15 months and he's made some definite upgrades to the roster. He'll likely continue that while collaborating with Pederson. What upgrades? Again, he absolutely does not get credit for Lawrence, Cisco, Little, or Campbell imo. Those were draft picks that WOULD have gone higher had they not suffered ACL injuries (obviously not Lawrence). We don't know how any of them will do. Campbell has looked good in zone the second half of the season. Cisco and Little are still question marks. But, again, they were all going to go higher in the draft had they not been injured. You can't just reach for injured players and get an attaboy. And what did he do in free agency? Not a thing. I'm not sure why you're defending him so hard or saying that Spielman is worse. Baalke pushed Harbaugh out and hasn't had a coach last more than a single year since then. Jim Tomsula, Chip Kelly, Doug Marrone, Urban Meyer. He is known to leak information and does whatever he has to do to save his own [BLEEP] at the expense of others. The fact that no one wants to work with him has to speak volumes.

If he has made his mind up about spielman this could just be satisfying the rooney rule, though i would not mind seeing rick smith knock it out the park and change his mind.

Almost every thread has to be derailed by some idiot troll. As cringe worthy as Khan's coaching search was, it turned out quite beneficial to us in two respects: 1. It resulted in the Jaguars hiring Doug Pederson. Granted with all of the delays, we needlessly risked losing him, but we didn't. 2. Khan said he learned from the coaching search that he needed to put more resources into scouting/football operations than he had before. For years, the Bengals were a horrible team because they ran a bare bones scouting staff and front office. I wonder if Khan (abd oerhaps Weaver) was making the same mistake here. If Khan puts more resources into the front office/football operations/scouting, and that nets ups more quality people like Spielman and Smith, t would only benefit us in the longer term. Adding guys like that who have good eyes for talent should lead to better drafting, better free agency expenditures, better handling of waiver wire claims and better final roster decisions than we've been getting before. I'd welcome either or both of Rick Smith and Rick Spielman to the Jaguars. Bith have oroven able to assemble talented rosters in the trenches and at the skill positions, on both sides of the ball. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!
So....this probably isn't happening, right? Seems like Khan may have been using it to dodge a question.

Khan specifically metioned having to go through some league channels to conduct the search. If he was referring to the Rooney rule, given the current climate, it's possible some aren't interviewing because they think it'll be a sham. If he's referring to othre league practices, perhaps it's possible they will wait until after the draft. I would love to bring either Spielman or Smith or both in put them in our front office. Both have proven they know how to draft good players. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

Championship Formula:
1) Draft Trevor Lawrence! 2) Play good physical Defense! 3) Keep 91% of the roster healthy! 4) ??? 5) Blank #2 6) CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

I think, after the debacles with Coughlin and Meyer, Khan has become very careful about who he hires. Some might call it slow. Some might call it careful and deliberate. I'm pretty sure he's going to hire an EVP. When is anyone's guess. |
