Russia invades Ukraine

My general rule about news articles is a little poop spoils the whole stew.
If anything in the article contradicts previously accepted facts, that better be backed by copious research and evidence to convince us that the previously accepted facts might be wrong, or the whole article is thrown out. If any fact in the article is distorted, or presented without needed context, with the intent to sensationalize or persuade, that is an opinion article, not a news article. It is taken under consideration but may or may not change our minds. Opinions are fine but news is better. It is hard to write articles that stick to the straight and narrow of a balanced presentation of facts about US politics. There are only a few places that consistently do it well.

I've been building up this previous knowledge my whole life. While I'm not a biologist, I knew a lot of scattered facts about SARS and Spanish Flu before 2020. Early reporting on COVID wasn't going to be very influential for me unless it fit in with my previous knowledge of pandemics. Just an example.

Russian space chief Dmitry Rogozin apparently threatens Elon Musk
Russian space chief Dmitry Rogozin has apparently threatened Elon Musk, but the SpaceX founder and CEO doesn't seem too bothered. On Sunday (May 8), Musk posted on Twitter a note that he said Rogozin, the head of Russia's federal space agency Roscosmos, had sent out to Russian media. The note claimed that equipment for SpaceX's Starlink satellite-internet system had been delivered to Ukrainian marines and "militants of the Nazi Azov battalion" by the U.S. military. "Elon Musk, thus, is involved in supplying the fascist forces in Ukraine with military communication equipment," Rogozin wrote, according to an English translation that Musk posted. (He also tweeted out a Russian version.) "And for this, Elon, you will be held accountable like an adult — no matter how much you'll play the fool." https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1523...swSVkTa8xg https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1523...swSVkTa8xg
Has Elon considered releasing a cologne named after himself?

It seems the media once again speculated folks into a lather with this occasion being about Russia dropping bombs if they didn't reach a certain point in their 'special military operation' by today. Guess what? We're still here.

They also claimed Ukraine was going to bomb some locations and blame Russia. The only thing that did happen was there was some attack by some Ukraine supporters in one of the nearby countries in the last week or so, can't remember which country it was. Russia withdrawing troops after 'heavy losses', proving 'inability to capture key Ukrainian cities,' UK says
Russia once encircled Kharkiv at beginning of the war Russia’s withdrawal of troops from a Ukrainian region that they encircled at the beginning of the war is proving their "inability to capture key Ukrainian cities," the United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defense said Thursday. https://www.foxnews.com/world/russia-wit...kAYsmB_i5U ![]()

It's becoming very obvious that, in addition to a myriad of other problems in the Russian military system, American and NATO weaponry is vastly superior to what Russia has.
They spent a lot of money on modernizing in the last decade, and it appears to have been an abysmal failure. And now we're sending the Ukrainians advanced long-range precision artillery, which is going to be very effective. Hard to see how Russia can possibly win this. Hard to see what Putin's off ramp could possibly be, except for his own demise. After Stalin brutalized his own people the Soviets put checks and balances on their leaders. Putin is blustery but even he knows that if he ever made a determined decision to deploy nukes, he would suffer a sudden “health issue”. There is still a lot of the Soviet old guard lingering in Russia’s government. They’re not as unbalanced as the image they let Putin project.
Given their flaccid military achievements in Ukraine, their economy on the brink of ruin and the money lost by the oligarchs, I predict Putin’s days are numbered. The generals are either completely stupid or just doing the PR rounds. Russia surrounded several key areas but never advanced. It appears that was for a reason. Look at where the Ukrainian army was located. Majority was in the Donbass region, Russia is claiming they were planning an attack. Russia surrounds several of the cities and starts advancing in other areas. They cut off transportation routes to limit troop movements. The Rusian deployments kept Ukraine from sending the troops in the larger cities to the south and east. Sitting in Kharkiv is keeps the NATO and Ukraine from freely moving weapons. Russia also keeps destroying train routes and bridges. First they were moving troops to attack Donbass, now it's because of heavy loses. Just report on what is actually happening without commentary. Something strange happened at Snake island. Ukraine is admitting they lost troops, choppers, and other equipment. Russia claims multiple choopers, a ton of drones, a lot of special forces, boats, and planes were shot down. Some stuff coming out saying the US was involved in leading the mission and had commanders on the ground. Internal arguments over whether it was a useful mission or just a suicide mission. Rumors US and Zelenskyy pushed it for PR and military leaders were against it. When it failed, US demanded its commanders back which forced further Ukrainian loses. If half of that is true, Biden continues to try and start WW3. Both sides are reporting a battle taking place with heavy Ukrainian loses. Will be interesting to see what else comes out. Now there are reports that Putin is extremely sick with cancer and other illnesses. This would account for his extremely flaccid response to the disaster that is occurring in Ukraine. In his victory day speech he basically did nothing - neither escalated nor de-escalated. There are also several military experts and intelligence people who say that Russia cannot continue this for more than 90 days without being completely out of supplies of missiles and other ordnance.
And yet they continue to push troops and equipment into the meat grinder. Russia is faced with eminent defeat and Putin appears very weak. One way to account for this is Putin is actually quite sick and the rumors thst he has advanced cancer are true. Russia couldn't afford to fight more than a 3 weeks at the start of the war. Then the Putin was sick and/or mentally not there and was going to be overthrown. I guess they have run out of stories to push and are now circling back to the start and rehashing their previous PR. It doesn't appear the war ends until Russia completes their goals or Ukraine finally signs a peace agreement. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk |
