Yes, this season will be very important for us to evaluate him. I'd like to compare him to Justin Herbert since Herbert also plays for a bad team. In fact, I'll make Herbert the benchmark whether Lawrence is good enough. Herbert's rookie season was 4,338 yds 31 TD 10 Int. His second season was 5,014 yds 38 TD 15 Int. I'd like Lawrence to reach at least Herbert's 2020 season. Some leeway will be given if the team is much better than anticipated. We have seen a bunch of great throws already just need competency someway and somewhere around the guy. I have a wait and see approach. Yes time will tell. The owner kept with a prior GM that couldn't retain talent and let an elite cornerback trade produce pale replacements. Yes it is my opinion and I hope I see something this year that rewards suffering with this team. Baalke is very suspect and I can forgive retention with improvements on the field but for now he has proven he can spend money.

For Lawrence to go from his rookie season stats to Justin Herberts rookie season would be a massive improvement of 19 TDs and 7 less ints. Would be awesome. A stud LT. 2 elite pass rushers in Bosa and Mack. JC Jackson at corner and Derwin James at safety. They actually have one of the best rosters in the NFL.

Can you elaborate on the Chargers being a bad team? Sure, 9-8 is ok but 7-9 the season before isn't that great. Don't apply Jaguars standards to other teams. The head coach was fired after 2020. Meyer is in a league of his own but Anthony Lynn wasn't exactly elite either. In fact, saying they have a strong roster just goes to prove that(I know it was an earlier season).

A lot of people are picking them to go to the SB. I’m not totally sure what you’re seeing. I can see an underachieving team but a bad team? The Jags are bad. The chargers are not.

The stats I provided are for 2020 and 2021 when the team was a combined 16-17. Herbert did not hold that team back which is the main point I wanted to make. He played well even when the team didn't. But maybe I should have said Herbert played for a bad team. It doesn't really change the point. This is what we should expect from Lawrence this year. The team should no longer be terrible and the coach is a pro. If the receivers play as well as they did Week 18 last year this should be doable, right?

I don’t think you can categorize a team that 1 an OT botch away from the playoffs a “bad team”. It’s also tough compare Trevor straight up to Herbert the last 2 years because the offensive talent around him is so much better. I wish Trevor had Williams, Allen and Eckler.

This thread should get more interesting if Lawrence has a bad game against the Commanders.

Can we leave the personal insults behind for a while and get back to some semblance of topic, gents? Please, and thank you. If it is Lawrence's fault that is a different story. I suspect there will be trouble all season long. I do think we will see a good season in terms of direction and capability. Week 1 is very hard to predict. Especially for a team as historically bad as this one.

Trevor's going to have to really work hard if he wants to keep pace with Stafford for the interceptions title again. That dude can really toss a pick.

However, if the team scores 30 points and he throws 200 yards with a TD and a pick on Sunday I'm not going to be upset about it. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato
