The media ask the press secretary what there is to celebrate about with inflation sticking around and the markets going nuts. She mentions the inflation reduction act and tells people to go to a website that lists how people can save money.

By learning how to:
-get a tax credit on an EV.
-buy an efficient heat pump and other appliances
-buy efficient insulation

And more but I don't remember what all she said.

Are these people dumb or just plain stupid? Our heat pump works just fine. Not super efficient compared to today's standards but it works. My truck and hubby's car are paid for and work just fine. I would love to have better insulation but not at the expense of buying it and the drywall, tape, mud and paint to replace what we would have to tear out.

People don't have the money to drop thousands of dollars on EVs, heat pumps, etc., especially when they are struggling to pay their light bill. We won't spend it until we have to. Until then we keep putting money in savings so we can spend it when the time comes. We just bought a new fridge a few months ago only because the old one was literally dying.

This "act" is pretty worthless.

If you have an attic, you could upgrade the insulation there without racking up too many other costs. Im pretty sure you own your home.
Rent has been going up fadter than overall inflation, at least here.

Do you see many EVs where you live? I'm seeing more and more.

But yeah. I kind of wish Biden would tell it to us straight and admit that most people's income is not keeping up with inflation.  Admit that this is a belt tightening period for a lot of the necessities of life.  I feel like Americans can accept that.  We accepted it when Carter said so (Carter lost due to Iran hostage crisis, and Reagan's charisma, not inflation.  Inflation went even higher after Reagan was elected but voters didn't react)  The Japanese have accepted that message for nearly 30 years now.  Americans can be tough like that, if our leaders tell us we are that tough.  But our leaders (since Carter) treat us like softies.  Its probably too late for Biden to change tack.

Bidet, yes I spelled that right, doesn't know his [BLEEP] from his elbows. And politicians rarely ever give it to us straight. A bunch of liars. I don't need them to tell me what's up or what to do when it comes to my money or anything else. Only I know my situation and what's best for me and mine.

Yes we own our home but it's a 30 year old mobile home that we don't want to put a boatload of money into. We own my husband's late grandmother's home and property but hubby's father gutted it and is now unlivable (long story). We're trying to decide what to do with it.

Regardless, none of Bidet's policies or "acts" are going to do us any good in the mean time and they're not going to do anything for low income folks and retirees who are really struggling right now.

There are tradeoffs.
It's worth having more local damage from mining and landfills if it helps reduce the global damage of climate change.

Dude. We don't even know what the ideal climate is on this planet. We are literally using data from our lifetime to determine this. Until batteries become renewable, we are literally destroying the planet in the hopes we don't destroy the planet. Great trade off.

You're right that longer growing seasons in more areas could be good for humanity.  And areas that are now way too cold for humans to enjoy could become temperate.
However that would likely go hand in hand with most of South Florida, and most of Bangladesh being underwater.  Worse, parts of west Africa, and areas of India and Pakistan, become literally uninhabitable in the early summer.  The world is simply not ready to handle those kinds of refugee flows from areas that are already poor. And I don't think you want the world to be more ready for that.  The ounce of prevention will cost less than the pound of cure.

What are you talking about? The world has never been MORE ready. Technology has made those kinds of migrations easier than ever. I guess if we keep reducing energy in the name of climate change, that trip could be harder, but we can handle it.

'It' needs a serious Nip/Tuck makeover. Maybe they can revive the series for one episode?

Saw this last night.  Pretty disgusting that some people think that this is somehow "normal"... around children.   Sick

There are 10 kinds of people in this world.  Those who understand binary and those who don't.

Just because she gave you one doesn't mean you have to give her one.
