The Trivial Annoyances Thread

Wife: "A beer?  Like one single beer?"

Wife: "Was there anything special about that beer?"
Me: "No, it was Miller Lite."
Wife: "$13 for one Miller Lite?"
Me: "Yep.  Well, I did tip a dollar."

That conversation would not have happened if they accepted cash at the Jags games.  My trivial annoyance isn't just the cost of the beer.  It's that I have to have that conversation, and admit that I paid that much money for one single beer.

I always try to pay bar tabs and greens fees with cash so my wife can't track my activities.  It helps maintain plausible deniability.

Well, DUH.

Picking paint colors. Mainly because I don’t really care. I’m kinda fond of the colors we have already. But the wife wants to make a change. So we(she) picks out about 2 dozen samples from the wall at the Sheraton William store. I was tasked to help narrow it down? I like the one that is on the wall. I’m told I’m not helping and don’t give a crap. No, I don’t actually. So I eliminate about half of her choices. She gets a few pint sized “samples”. We paint decent samples on the wall. I’ve got the same lighting in every room. And in each room, these colors look completely different. How can one color look white in one room and suede in another?

Which is…?  Just curious your thoughts.   That’s all.  I’m smart.  I already know the right answer.  Just wanted to know your thoughts on this.  (Head down pencil and pad in hand, taking notes whilst tongue sticking out ala bortles).

Natural light, which will be different from room to room, can make a difference.  Is the color variance noticeable at night?

I’ll say this, I’ve got LED daylight bulbs throughout the house.  Blackout curtains throughout.  When painting a decent swath of paint, there should be very little variables.  We painted a room a grey color that looks to be blue at times and almost purple at others.  My house has been set up that the fixtures all have the same lighting and we can “black out” it’ll we want.  Obviously, there is some sort of light imbalance.  Where??? Idk!!!  I just know it should not be normal for a white to look suede or even “rose gold” when I’ve controlled all other variables.  It’s frustrating, irritating, and most importantly of all, I can’t agree with the wife.  The color we have is amazing.  I don’t understand the want to spend so much money on something we can do ourselves. But, we’ll have a color painted on the wall that we have no clue what it’ll be.She bought more samples. Yay!  (Eyeroll).   She tells me that she read an article about one of the particular colors.  How it shows one colors upon north facing light and another in south facing light.  What the actual [BLEEP]???   Apparently a northern light affect the southern view and vis versa?  [BLEEP] me.  Can’t we just paint the wall gray, white, brown, purple…?  I just want the shot to look the way it looks.

Well, damn! Just [BLEEP] up. Going over the colors, 8 in total now, i suggested one was too “periwinkle” for my liking. Whoa!!! Apparently “periwinkle@ was the wrong word to use. She pissed!

My first guess would be what you're painting over, if the walls were different shades before they may be bleeding through if you aren't using paint/primer blend.

My son's room is a dark blue, repainting that is gonna be a capital-P Project. I am already resigned to first having to primer all walls to get that bleed gone.

Our house painting adventure was fun, former house painter and we live in a wooded area, house was gray and hadn't been painted in ages. I grabbed a bunch of natural tans, ochres, olive, even some grayish blues. First thing wifey says "I don't wanna blue house". Ok, scrap the blues. Tan? eh, greens? eh. yellow? nope. grabbed a few samples, including a light blue, slapped a bit on the back of the house to see how they'd all look.

We have a blue house now.

To the bolded: seriously dude?   Smh.  I’d just call it a green.  Gotta bust your balls on that one, lol. But you had “olive” colors involved, so I do understand the need to specify.

The majority of my walls are a true light gray color.  They look grey in all lights.  We got a home run on that one.  So I don’t think it would be a PIA to paint over.  Supposedly, he’s doing 2 coats all around and 1 on the trim.  Idk if primer is involved or if it’s mixed in with the paint.  However, for whatever reason, my master bath is, no joke, [BLEEP] brown!!!   That’ll need an extra coat!!

I like our walls (except for the master bath).  I didn’t know the wife got an estimate until she told me a few weeks back.  We aren’t prepared and this guy is supposed to be out tomorrow.  [BLEEP]??   She never put a second coat on her new samples.  We never picked a color(s).  I have a saltwater tank that I’ve relocated the fish but -about 120 gallons worth of tank in the way that I need to sell, a safe that is not getting moved, and a wrap around (corner) desk that spans about 16 feet in my office and a bed in which the delivery guys asked for my help to carry in the head and footboards with a temperpedic mattress that feels like it weighs in at, oh…10 million pounds.   All of which I don’t expect them to move.  But, whatever, it’s game time tomorrow!  I fully expect only 2/3’s of the house to be painted.  Sometimes we just have to let our wives do stupid [BLEEP]???

If your painting guy is anything like the contractors I've been dealing with, you still have at least two weeks before he shows up.

Fair point!   We had our windows done a month ago.  We’re still dealing with the window people.  Glad we spent extra on the “good” company! Although, they did attempt to make it right 3 times….

Don’t go with New South.

Jeldwens.  Doing them myself.  Done right the first time (Though Saturday my wife mentioned the "window guy" had been slacking off lately.)

ochre = Jags [BLEEP] color rush jerseys a few years back

bet a donut that if the safe doesn't move it'll end up like the wall behind a toilet, just trimmed in as best they can, without painting the tank/safe.

best of luck, might be wise just to stay out of the way, let the lady make the choices, and just sign the check when all is said and done. At least then you only have one moment of stress!

I don't post here much, but this one REALLY pisses me off..

I saw a story on the news just now, was about Winn Dixie giving away free turkeys for the holidays..

In this long line of people in their cars, waiting for free turkey, most of the vehicles looked mighty expensive. Newer Buicks, newer SUVS ect ect.. I even saw some of the people they interviewed, covered in gold jewelry and accessories..

[BLEEP] THAT [BLEEP]!!

Time to put an end to that crap! These people need to start registering with their income status to start receiving free food again. These pieces of [BLEEP] are doing nothing but taking food out of the peoples mouths who really need it.. PATHETIC!!

Well, my wife was thinking this guy (idk if he is solo or has a crew) was going to come in here and paint the trim one coat and two coats throughout the house in one day.  We don’t live in a huge house, but my are those lofty expectations!  My wife took a day to work from home for it.  She found out it’ll be a 3 day process.  So she rescheduled for another week I was off.  Thanks!  Your deal, you wanted it, now I have to spend 3 of my off days making sure this dude doesn’t try to swipe something?  I’d rather go to work!  But, I suppose it gives us time to prepare more.  I honestly would not have been upset if I had to “touch up” behind the immovable objects on my time.  Sure beats painting the whole house! Lol.

That stuff irritates the crap out of me too.  The “rich” stay at home moms is in line while the single mom that needs it, or could use it, is at work.  My wife and I do alright for ourselves.  I’d feel like an [BLEEP] if I tried to get a handout.  I also piss a lot away.  Wife is a bit tighter and more responsible.  But I know some well off people that will ask for a pvc coupling that costs .69-1.00 before going to the store to buy it.  I suppose the “rich” didn’t get there by spending money.  I don’t get it.
