2023 Offseason Roster Moves

I keep checking to see if Engram has signed an extension. We don’t need any holdouts and/or distractions. It would be a win for both sides.

They still have 3 months to work out a long term deal. I wouldn't get myself worked up over it.

The Draft will determine what happens there. If they take a TE in the 1st then EE is playing on the tag this year and then leaving. That, or it gives the team leverage to drive his price down a bit if he wants to stay. If they don't take a TE that high then I'd expect to see a 3 to 5 year contract signed right after the voluntary stuff ends.

Yes.
My take as well on the Engram deal and draft intent.

Will be interesting to see if this comes into fruition. I am curious how they'll go about keeping him, Kirk, Jones and potentially Ridley if he's REALLY the 1,400 yard receiver he's hyping himself out to be.

We can't keep them all. Plus, Lawrence has extension coming up and then you have to figure out the long term fixes at LT, RT, LG and RG. Fun stuff man. LOL.

I don't envy Baalke at the moment. BUT, this is where he has to cut his teeth. This is where you prove your worth. He has to start landing solid football players and depth in these next two drafts.

Was interesting to hear Doug speak on the TE room. He said he's always had a great TE room everywhere he's been and he always likes to make it as great as possible for his QB

Goes back to the whole Kincaid conversation. Some talking heads think there's at least three TE's worthy of a 1st RD pick this year. It's Mayer, Kincaid and Washington in no particular order.

This is a really weird draft where the value is spread out across the board. As much as I keep saying it's a deep TE class, which it is, they could just as easily have the same mentality but backwards.

If you trust your evaluating? Which, maybe we should with Pederson's input considering his history with that position and the quick dividends he got in one year with Engram? Maybe the mindset is that, if they don't see an edge rusher or cornerback there on the opening night?

Maybe they'll be fine taking the TE they covet best? This is also a fairly deep class at edge rusher, corner, etc. Kincaid could be their best player there at the end of the night.

I wouldn't hate the selection. Just because of Pederson's proven history with that position.

I think we would try to still try to resign Engram regardless and if we did take a TE in the first or not and Kincaid wouldn't make a lot of sense imo.  I think Mayer or Washington because of the blocking ability and if it was up to Baalke I bet he loves Washington.

I wouldn’t draft a TE in round 1 this season. I would go DE or CB.

Anthony Richardson will probably end up in Indy with J.Taylor
The Texans will get a QB and we still have to deal with Derrick Henry.

I don’t feel confident trotting Walker and Allen out there. I also don’t think any rookie TE, who has to learn everything, is better than Engram is right now. Which means that rookie TE would sit behind Engram except on 2/1 or 2/2 formations, which wouldn’t be worth a 1st round pick.

If we take a TE in the first round, this would be where I start to question Balke's ability to be a GM. Unless the guy he takes is Travis Kelce 2.0, i'm perfectly fine with Engram.

We're drafting at a position we have to remember some of the guys we want could be gone. I don't prefer a TE but if it's the BPA then I'm not against it.

I'm all for BPA but at the same time, again like the RB in the first argument I think it has to be a guy who is an insane prospect to be fair and viable. ETN was a guy who was a machine at Clemson, he had it all and to put things into perspective, the year Fournette and CMC went in the top 10 I think had ETN been in that draft he goes over both.

I've not followed this years draft much, so I can't speak to the talent of whatever tight ends you guys are wanting to pick.. but what I do know is that usually the good tight ends are found late in the draft, TE's are apparently really difficult to evaluate in terms of translating to the NFL because rarely do the guys going early pan out to be that guy. And even if they are good they rarely make a huge impact. So yeah, if we're sitting at 24 and theres a guy who looks like he could be the next Travis Kelce.. go for it.. but also right now our offense looks pretty damn good and we need to build the OL and the Defense more so than a backup tight end.

While I think our team is on the up swing, I don't think we are in a position to take a luxury pick like a TE right now, at least not in the first round.

I'm grinning as I type this, because what you just talked about reminds me of the term "1st World Problems"

back to back posts, well done.

So if Baalke takes a TE early, you question his skills, even though you're really not familiar with the guys he's looking at? 10-4.

It's the one thing we've never truly had here.

At best we've had a good TE here wih little to no quality depth behind the starter.

But we've never had what I would consider a "great" TE here, much less two on the same team.

That could add some new dimensions tothe offense if we get the right guy.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

I’m good with a TE as long as he can sack the QB.

That's 2 of the deeper positions in this draft so you could get both
