And even if they are good they rarely make a huge impact. So yeah, if we're sitting at 24 and theres a guy who looks like he could be the next Travis Kelce.. go for it.. but also right now our offense looks pretty damn good and we need to build the OL and the Defense more so than a backup tight end.

While I think our team is on the up swing, I don't think we are in a position to take a luxury pick like a TE right now, at least not in the first round.

back to back posts, well done.

So if Baalke takes a TE early, you question his skills, even though you're really not familiar with the guys he's looking at? 10-4.

When you're in win now mode like the Jaguars seem to be, I do think using up a valuable resource to draft a backup player at a position that isn't nearly as valuable as the actual needs of this team (Oline/Dline/DBs) would be a questionable move for Balke to make. Now, you can correct me if i'm wrong but I'm pretty sure Kyle Pitts was drafted a couple years ago and nobody in this class seems to be some special talent that's just waiting to burst into the NFL like Travis Kelce.

The only scenario we take a TE at 24 is if Engram wont play on the tag or wont sign a long term deal, and even if that happened which it wont I highly doubt there is gonna be a tight end available at 24 that would make more of an impact to this team than the best available ol/dl/dbs at that spot.

It's the one thing we've never truly had here.

At best we've had a good TE here wih little to no quality depth behind the starter.

But we've never had what I would consider a "great" TE here, much less two on the same team.

That could add some new dimensions tothe offense if we get the right guy.

Good TE's are regularly found outside of the 1st round of the draft, it's a crapshoot as usual for any position but we have much more pressing needs than a second tight end currently. Unless they think whomever they draft is gonna be the next Gronk/Kelce, I doubt we're going that direction at 24.

If that's the asking price? Sign me up. We can still package our fourth and/or sixth round picks to creep back inside the 3rd RD to nab another starting caliber player.

Depends on the contract he wants.

Jags never do anything good with a 6th round pick. I can’t think of anything. The third round is important, but it’s buda man. I would 100% do this. We have a window and need to take advantage of it. I understand the long term is important too, and this move would still be good.

Hard to say no to that deal.
Long term salary is the only obstacle. A nickel on a rookie deal makes a lot of sense right now cap-wise.

The only issue with that trade is we would need to clear another $1.5m in cap space by tomorrow/Friday unless we got Arizona to eat some of it in the trade. We're at $15.5m and Baker's hit is currently $16.8m. From my understanding even in a "trade and sign" type deal you need to have that initial cap space available to make the trade.

My guess would be that they trade for him, Arizona eats some of it and they give him a new contract which would push his money down the road.

Yes, I agree.  We have to fit him into a salary cap that is about to explode with a huge franchise-quarterback contract.

Don't we need roughly 7M to sign our draft class?

I believe that only needs to be available when they sign, not the day of the draft

We've had a lot of TEs in the past that got the QB sacked.  Does that count?

Looks like we have a draft day trade in the works for Budda Baker.

I also read that we have a mutual interest with Yannick Ngakoue? But he would likely want more money than we are willing to give, considering he'd just be a situational role player.

Baker would be a good addition. I would almost be willing to forego a contract extension with Engram and opt for us to draft his replacement tomorrow night if it means having enough cap space to workout something Baker contract wise instead.

We can draft Isaiah Foskey with the 56th pick more than likely and he's virtually a clone of Yannick Ngakoue or go for Byron Young (TEN) to bolster the edge. We could probably wait an additional round and opt for Yaya Diaby instead.

Do you have a recent link for this?

I've seen that they're interested but nothing brewing at the moment.

I would also welcome back Yan with open arms if he can sack the QB.

Would anyone consider going after Washington's Chase Young in a trade? Seems like the right opportunity for a buy low given they recently officially declined his 5th year option.

I know he has an injury history, but it just feels that most elite pass rushers have checkered injury history in today's game.
