Let's Talk About- Political Edition

Here is the backstory on Prigozhin. He's an ex-con who partnered with Putin, when he was the deputy mayor of St. Petersburg, to build a restaurant business with government contracts into what he is today. He and Putin go back decades.

And I wonder what the Russian people will think when they hear one of Putin's formerly staunchest supporters say the war in Ukraine was based on a lie.

I wonder too. This could possibly foment a coup against Putin, but Russians are notoriously paranoid. They see deception and intrigue around every corner. I would be shocked if Putin didn’t come up with a story saying Prigozhin was bought off by the Americans, or some such Machiavellian stunt, to keep public opinion on his side.

This will be Putin’s biggest test. Let’s see if the corrupt old KGB agent has any tricks left up his sleeve.

Edit: Putin may have reason to be paranoid. I just saw an interview with KT McFarland and she postulated the U.S. government could very well indeed be influencing these events.

The plot thickens.

When I read this post, my first thought is there is zero possibility of this happening without American influence. Some things just aren't conspiracies. I get annoyed because I want our agencies to be accountable to the American people, but only fools and optimists underestimate their competency.

We probably have some influence, but Cyprus and Panama probably have more.

Need to wait and see what actually happened. MSM is jumping on the overthrow Putin and Russia is saying nothing going on.

A lot of the stuff on telegraph need to view it from multiple sources and right now that is the source for most of the media right now.

This guy wasn't an anti Putin guy so who knows what is going on. He could have just went in and killed a bunch of anti-Putin forces. Need to just wait and see. Unless Putin stopped paying or the US offered more money, I don't see him turning like that.

His beef wasn't with Putin, it was with the Minister of Defense who he claimed directed the rocket strike against his men.

Now, supposedly Prigozhin is going to Belarus and his troops are going to be enrolled in the Russian army.

It sounds like Prigozhin just wimped out.

Very strange.

Enrolled?? Unless these soldiers are signing up for some brainwashing, limp-wristed college, the correct term is enlisted. Got that, you grabastic amphibian piece of filth?!

Yeah, so what the hell just happened?  I think Prigozhin must be nuts.  Maybe all that combat has driven him insane.

The Ukrainians have to be very disappointed.  Civil war in Russia would have brought them immediate victory on the battlefield as Russian forces would have been drawn away to defend Moscow.

I don’t know but Prigozhin signed his own death warrant. Putin won’t let this slide. He’ll have Prigozhin knocked off in some creative fashion out of the KGB handbook.

That sounded like BS to me when I first heard it 48 hours ago and it still sounds like BS.
When this war started, our Treasury Department said that the Russians had enough hard currency to sustain a war effort for 18 months. We are 14 months in.
So I figure the real reason Wagner tried to rebel was because they are mercenaries that are no longer getting paid.  Ordinary Russian soldiers signaled they would resist, and the Wagner folks didn't want to die, so now they aren't mercenaries anymore but they are still soldiers.
If I'm right, this means many more wheels are about to come off the Russian war machine.

This stuff goes layers deep, especially when the Russians are involved. I still think Prigozhin is a dead man walking.

For months these Wagner soldiers have been told that the top of the Russian army is corrupt and incompetent.  Now that they are being integrated into the Russian army, how are they going to feel about taking orders from the very people they have been told are corrupt and incompetent?
I can see a lot of different scenarios.
What happens when they are ordered to the front and they feel like they are being sacrificed because it is just inconvenient to keep them around?  If entire Wagner units are kept together, we could see a rebellion at some point.

I'm just saying, integrating these units into the Russian army could lead to some rather unpredictable situations.

Unless he and Putin had some pre-existing understanding about him doing all of this as kayfabe, yes.  He's dead.
