They definitely installed more sideline routes this year - and rightfully so since they acquired a real X receiver. 
It is definitely not working out the way they planned though.
Between the pressure being quick and frequent and the acquired receiver getting bumped off routes it just hasn't come together often. It's fair to put some of it on Trevor, but he has hit some good ones to Ridley down the sideline and he's also thrown him several incompletions that way that drew a PI flag. So it's a mixed bag of results, but not as effective as they planned.

Ridley isn't an X WR. He needs to lineup at different spots and run all types of routes. His routes versus previous years are very telling.

This stupid offense has broken Trevor because he has to wait longer before coming off the 1st read. Trevor was great last year at reading the defense and finding the open WR. Now he can't find the open WR and when he does, he seems to hesitate for a split second before then seeing the rush and stumbling around into a sack.

They really need to go back to last year and run every route from every position. Break the rules, the trends, and make the DBs have to guess which WR is which on every play.

It's going to take a team effort to fix this but it has to start at the top. If Pederson keeps saying they have to execute better, they won't be winning the division. A great coach would adjust when his players can't execute the plays that are being called.

If he did, who is playing the Julio Jones role? 

That Ridley-routes narrative is a non-starter. He's running effective routes.

Kirk ran 90% of his routes from the slot. 
Marvin was mostly Z and Zay was mostly X. 

The only difference is that when they put Ridley at X - they gave him a few deeper routes, sprinkled in more sideline routes .   Two different players.  The one advantage Ridley isn't getting is from pre snap motion or being used/hidden in bunch formations. They could do that more to get him clean coming off the LOS. They use it on other receivers more than Ridley. 

Bottom line:
Fix the line and the passing game goes through the roof.

Yesterday is what happens when you get totally dominated in the trenches. (both OL and DL)  The 49ers were a team on a mission after 3 bad losses to send a message to the league. They had 2 weeks to get healthy while stewing over the 3 game losing streak. 

The opponent had no fear of us throwing anything more than maybe 15 yards downfield.  They also had no fear of us getting to their QB before their receivers could run their routes properly.

My view from the outside is that some fans prefers the confort of always losing than experiencing the pains of  winning.  What this team, and staff, has done is incredible, we still a young team learning how to deal with success, heck we got even younger this year with (I think) 8 rookies making the final 53 over older guys.

Look at the depth, our oldest Safety is Jenkins with 29, Cisco is 23!!!! Our oldest RB is D'Ernest with 27 years old. what about our QB who is only 24. Starting in our OL we have a RT with 21, a LG with 24 and a C with 25. On The Edges we have Travon with 22 and Allen with 26. CB after Williams(30) we have Campbell with 23, Gregory Junior 24 and "Buster" Brown with 24.

We still learning how to win and how to deal with expectations, I predict this team will be fine because I have seen this team come back just last year, and talking about Pederson, in the Eagles in 2018 that team came back after a humiliating loss to the saints 48-7, and end up losing in the divisional round.

I understand that we want to win and we want it now, but consistency only comes with time

Correct. This team just needs to give itself the proverbial gut check. We should still beat TEN both times, they are not a good football team right now, at least not playing well at the moment. Houston is the game that we REALLY need to win, split the series, and hope they slip up vs Denver and/or the Jets so we can take the division cleanly. In all honesty, if we beat TEN 2x and Houston, we should at least beat Carolina with a good shot vs TB too. That's 11 wins if those happen. Let's say we slip and lose 1 of those, still 10 wins. Not sure if we finish 2nd in the division if we get the 7th seed tho.

We didn't play like a playoff team.  We wouldn't have beaten any team in the league looking like the way we did yesterday.  The team should have a chip on its shoulder this week,  time to get back to us and finish the job.

So, in summary the full diagnosis:

• O-line is terrible. Baalke's fault. 4/5 positions could play better, but Fortner is probably the worst Center in the league. I'd put Cleveland at LG, Little at RT until Harrison's shoulder is healed, and Shatley at Center. Fortner needs to hang out on the practice squad and in the weight room with Bartch. 
  
• Play calling is terrible. Press's fault, and Doug's fault for pressing the promotion button on someone who's not ready. If Doug doesn't want to call plays, he should give Mike McCoy a chance. 
  
• Bigsby and Strange aren't contributing. Baalke's fault for over-drafting them. 
  
• Trevor is making dumb mistakes. Trevor's fault, but any QB (even Mahomes) would be playing rushed behind this line and bad play calling. Baalke's fault, Press's fault, Doug's fault. 
  

Good news: Jags are 6-3 and well positioned for a playoff run even with a struggling offense. Glass is still half full.
