Hehe, I would say it's a waste of time trying to get Lawrence apologists to change their mind.  I just wanted to see how far he would go in explaining a near perfect performance, when Stroud had put up 236 yards and 3 TDs in the first half of the game...then sat on the bench most of the second half (2 defensive TDs, 1 more TD drive, before being sat behind Davis Mills.)

Stroud had some awful games throughout year they were able to overcome that could have easily gone the other way, but because they are a better coached team, they overcame them.

My eye test tells me there is a very good chance of a sophomore slump headed to Houston. He is turnover prone and had a lot of 50 50 situations go his way. Time will tell.

Turnover prone? He had 5 interceptions...for the year.  He did luck out on a few 50/50 situations, but so do the other NFL QBs.  My predictions for next year would exceed 5 interceptions, but I bet his ratio stays about the same...unless the Texans improve our running game  enough to divert his TDs to running plays.

Yep, but only lost 4. So as it stands 26 TDs, 9 turnovers (Ints + Lost fumbles,) pretty impressive,  particularly when you've played most of the season with a banged up Oline.

The big TD down field was the definition of good route running and great play design. All CJ had to do was throw it to a wide open spot on the field. The play design made it so that whole back quarter of the field was completely empty. The TE sold it with a good route and made for an easy pitch and catch.

Interesting chart. Are you aware that a CPOE of 9.1% is an amazingly high number? It measures a QBs accuracy over expected accuracy given the type of throw/field position/whether the QB is under pressure or hit/etc.

To deny he’s a really good player is ludicrous at this point.  The only reason to have any trepidation as to how good he’ll be is to see how he follows it up.  I see no reason he shouldn’t be just as good next year.  Texans got really lucky that the Panthers are stupid.

You're killing me Eric.  Maybe it's Stroud's accuracy that makes you think that was an "easy pitch and catch."  He's rolling outside the pocket to his right, then throws a monster of a pass to a TE that's cutting away from him on the left side of the field.  Watch this vid, and how the football hits the TE in stride, directly into his hands.  That's nearly a 50 yard down field pass, and add 15 to cover the angle.

Why does it matter? Tom Brady was the goat by throwing short/efficient passing and only really taking shots when he had to/was open. He wasn't like Tua and tossing bombs 24/7 for his touchdowns. His offenses were methodical and boring, that is a sign of a truly elite offense.. Not the oos and aahs like Miami did this year, it's a boom and bust system. A truly elite offense lines up and runs the same simple crap each week and executes even when the defense 100% knows what is coming. Part of being a really good QB is knowing when that underneath pass is going to net you extra yardage vs throwing a guy a hospital ball over the middle, for example.

Well the Ravens defense and Lamar's legs were too much for the Texans, but it was a great start for the first year of the rebuild. We've got our Head Coach and our new QB. The biggest offensive issue is a lack of a running game to keep defenses honest. Defense needs some additional pass rushers, particularly from the interior defensive line. I'll trust Caserio to use our huge cap to bring in the right FAs, and hopefully have another successful draft like 2023.

I would agree with this. Being surgical and taking short passes is fine if it works. Stroud dials up deeper shots too. He isn’t a check down king. The reason the short stuff is open is he can buy a lot of time in the pocket to throw downfield too, so defenses have to respect it.
