I would rather the Pats give Rourke back but at least this get CJ sent packing.

If we can sign Mitch Morse or another center. And use a 2nd/3rd round draft pick on another oline position. We would be set imo. Gives us flexibility to draft a WR or CB in the first round.

I think in hindsight, most objective NFL fans would say Gabbert for a 6th was a good deal for the 49ers.  It was a good deal for us at the time as well.  Not all trades have to have a winner and a loser. A lot are mutually beneficial.

I think the cap hit will be larger for rostering Mac than just keeping Beathard, but the difference between Mac's salary and Beathard's salary plus Beathard's dead cap is about $1.8 million.  It's an increase, but it's not some egregious number.   They still have plenty of other potential cap savings moves they can make.

If it's just a perceived upgrade by the FO, no big deal.

Yep. Truly a head-scratching moment for Baalke. What is the upside here? Why? We have a QB that did OK as a backup, that's all you can ask from a guy like CJ. What does Mac even bring to the team that is worth a dime? A pick??! It's wild to me. This is why Baalke is a turd GM and always will be. He really needs to ht a grand slam with this draft or it's gonna get ugly around here.

all of you will see jags should've taken Mac Jones to begin with.  Trevor is a great person ,hes just not the qb to take jags all the way. Jones is.  Let’s go Jags!!!!!

Um.

Massive overreaction. A 6th round pick would not make the team anyways. Mac Jones will be a backup and will hopefully never see the field (knock on wood). Trust the process. We just gotta protect Tlaw and figure out what to do with Ridley

To me it's a just a secondary roster move, my only issue (and I'll already admit it's unfair) is that the time/resources it took to put the trade together.  If that 6th rounder went towards an older veteran offensive lineman that was likely to be cut, just to be first in line to get him, I think that would make more sense for the team.

Time resources. Man people are unbelievable

Interesting that he’s a Jacksonville kid, I had no idea

I say we welcome Mac, if Baalke doesn’t get us a playoff roster this off-season he’s gone next year. Don’t sweat it

Yeah, the morons have been out in force for the last 3 seasons.

Interestingly, it's quite possible that TLaw will be the only 1st round QB from his class to see then end of his rookie deal with the team that drafted him. With this move and the earlier trade of Lance, plus Wilson and Fields on the block, it looks more and more like we got the only actual QB in the draft. Time to build that Frank Gore statue downtown.

I’m in complete shock. This doesn’t really hurt, but it probably won’t help either. What’s the plan?

This is pretty odd. The same guys that call a 6th round pick a ham sandwich.  It is the last year of his rookie deal. Hopefully he shows out well and can sign for a big salary netting us a high compensatory pick next year.

I like the move. Has played well at times and IIRC has made a pro bowl. Trevor got hurt several times this past year and even missed some time. So it’s good to have a capable backup that, with the right weapons, can actually play well in the NFL. He’s a much better player than CJ Beathard.

All pro? That sounds nice. Definitely not an all-pro with the jags.
But ok - good move. Save some money
