People need to take into account the fact that a deal that brings in Aiyuk could end up with him having the same type of impact that Calvin Ridley had. Better receiver, yes. But if the offense is about spreading the rock around...and Trevor being comfortable and on the same page with the guy he's throwing to...
I don't know that I make that investment just because we know how Aiyuk performs with Purdy. Personally, I'd just draft a WR in the 2nd or 3rd round and hope that AFTER next season the player becomes an integral piece playing alongside Kirk Davis and Engram. Rather have the $$$ go to a lower cost free agent acquisition for corner like Adoree Jackson... and still draft a CB with the first or second pick.

Brandon Scherff is no longer that dude. Next season I want him gone. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
If we trade for Aiyuk you’d think they’d have to restructure and make a 3 year deal. Maybe that’s what the hold up is.
I doubt Baalke is going to want to do another year wait-and-see approach like with Ridley I want THigg because I think we are lacking a big body guy still, but would Aiyuk is a very reliable receiver, if he had elite speed he’d be a #1 for sure (03-15-2024, 12:27 PM)MojoKing Wrote: If we trade for Aiyuk you’d think they’d have to restructure and make a 3 year deal. Maybe that’s what the hold up is. If they can't land a WR1 via trade. My hope is that Brian Thomas Jr. falls or they trade down and start eyeing receivers like Keon Coleman or Xavier Leggett. I think that would be the play at this point. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I, who was born in a naked land and bred in the open sky. IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS
Trading out of the first couple rounds of THIS draft for any available receiver is not a great idea. Especially one whose contract will be coming due at the same time as Trevor's.

I'm not really in favor of trading for Aiyuk, but if we were to trade for him using our 1st or 2nd rounder, a new contract would almost certainly be done for him simultaneously with the trade. Anything else would be foolishness.
Do you think Urban Meyer is aware 99 for the Rams retired? I heard he was a pretty good player.

However, one of the second round picks being acquired is a future pick. It's generally accepted that a future pick is worth one round lower. As such, if you consider Houston's compensation to be only a second rounder, a third rounder and a sixth rounder, Minnesota got the better value and won the trade. I do agree with the post made on another board that Houston must feel the dropoff in talent between 23 and 42 at whatever position they are targeting isn't huge and therefore made the trade. I'd like to know where people got this notion that Aiyuk is a Nª1 reciever, he is not top 15 in receptions, he is not top 15 in TD's and he is 7th in yards... he is equal to Ridley, and if wasn't for the drops, I would say Ridley is better, look at their numbers:
Ridley: 76 Rec, 1016 Yds, 8 Tds Aiyuk: 75 Rec, 1342 Yds, 7 Tds I much prefer, now that Ridley is gone, to draft a WR.

Last year of his contract. The 49ers will/may not be able to sign him next year with the state taxes and COLA in San Fran. He is like Ridley a #2 plus receiver. Debo is their number 1. I could see as a replacement for Kirk next year but Aiyuk is a bit slower and less quick as Kirk. I do hope we do not trade any of our picks and load up on big bodies, CB, receivers etc. We definitely need to replenish the o-line/D-line pipeline.
A new broom always sweeps clean.

Go watch him run routes and play. Also. Having 300 more receiving yards on basically the same amount of caches is wild. |
