After Adisa Isaac all that was left is Abdullah quality rushers. This was not a deep draft for edge guys at all.

Production absolutely counts for a nose tackle.  You don't care if he can't hold the point and gets abused by the center and guards?  If our NT ain't productive and can't hold his own hand draw double teams along with being a beast against the run he shouldn't even be on the roster

Would have taken Tyler Davis and Leonard Taylor over JJ

A typical NT's production doesn't always show up in the T/Sack stat sheet. Their primary job is to get players (LBs) around them free by eating blocks.

Foster is likely to play inside, but he does have the versatility to play both positions.Time will tell if he turns out better than the other OL we have talked more about. Jefferson was a surprise since they seem to have a greater need for Edge rushers than DT. They are loading upon these big guys so teams will not be able to run on the Jags like last season.

No they don't, the DTs had awful production last year against both the run and the pass. These two picks are a commitment to stopping the run and helping the pass rush. Not sexy by any means, but neither were The Goose and Mt. Washington.

How can you not see depth at edge as a big need?  The backup edges on our current roster combined for only 1 sack last year.

I dont care about a stat sheet, i care about production.  You can be a very productive NT without it showing up on a stat sheet

Jags can bring in a free agent edge that would be better than anyone they draft right now.    They already have their two, maybe 3 starting edge rushers for the next two seasons.

Brandon Scherff is no longer that dude.   Next season I want him gone.

It's like they have scouting reports but no one bothered to read them. So they get to the pick and say who should we pick? No one has strong feelings so the guy who has personal relationships with the players pushes them.

This many players from LSU shows something is probably wrong in the war room.

Trevis Gibson is better than anyone they will draft this late...and as I said, they can bring in another backup Edge that has experience (like Bud Dupree) who would also be better than a draft pick this late.

While true, the draft pick is cheaper and need people playing special teams also.

Are we gonna select Mekhi Wingo, DT, LSU with our next pick?

Over/under?

While true, my reply was in response to the low sack numbers.   If the Jags bring in Bud Dupree...and they have Trevis...they are going to be much more impactful when it comes to sack totals...which IMO is way more important than them filling special teams spots.

The Jags need to stop CJ Stroud and two big running QBs...and a bunch of talented RBs this season.   I'm not worried about special teams OR cost right now.

But your points are correct as well.

My buddy who is a Steelers fan doesn't love their draft.  Complaining all they are taking is OL.   Fans fan is the motto.  Or grass is always greener.

First, I would remind people that Gipson failed to make his team's 53 man roster last year despite being on a rookie contract.  He then went to another team where he only had 1 sack over the course of a season.  However, let's put that aside for now.  Even if you are confident in Gipson, that's 1 backup edge.  You need at least 2 and preferably 3 on the 53 man roster.  Backup edge is still a big need.

Second, if you think a free agent would be better than a draft pick at this point, that's fine.  However, that's a value argument.  I was responding to someone who didn't think backup edge was a need.
