Was he not 67 out of 68 in drop%?

He had 1 good year in his career and it was 2022. 7 of his 8 career seasons were average or worse. He is what he is. He's just a guy and I think his production will be replaced in this offense by an UDFA.

I'll spell out for you why it's a cherry picked number

21 drop rate 1.9%
22 drop rate 10%
23 drop rate 2.9%

Whatever - he's gone now and we have new blood starting and new blood to develop as depth.
Protection was a bigger issue for this passing game than the receiving corps.
We'll be fine if the line plays better.

He wasn't just a guy in 2022 - he was clutch in big moments for our offense and we don't make the post season that year or win the game vs LAC without him. And that is despite his drop rate.

He's a good patch job pick up for a team that faces a lot of zone coverage in their division needing a Z receiver IMO.
So nothing is actually cherry picked lol It seems like you're the one cherry picking the drop rate % and ignoring the rest.

And no one has ever denied his importance in 2022. He was good and I've stated that many times. I've also agreed that they don't make the playoffs or win a playoff game without him. Chiefs don't win their first SB without Sammy Watkins. Average players can have above average games.

The stats and film backup my claims that he's been an average (or below average) wide receiver pretty much his entire career. 11 million dollars with a WR4 is bad practice.

I'm good moving on as well. On to BTJ and Cephus.

It's called a skewed stat, dude. Don't be ridiculous.

One bad year of drops (during a year when he also happened to produce 44 first downs) makes that number a poor inclusion to cite as a reason for being cut.

The stat you cited is ITSELF cherry picked, because it only includes a 2 year sample from his 7 year career.
Putting his one bad year of drops into that small sample makes it disingenuous as [BLEEP]

We've had absolutely TERRIBLE WRs for so long that Zay was a breath a fresh air. An average WR like him appeared to be a star here!

Comes down to, $11mill is the budget for WR2 or at least WR3. More than likely he stood on his business about not taking a pay cut.

Yeah, he was a decent receiver, but it was Trevor making him look good from a statistical perspective. Thomas should be an upgrade if he can be coached.

The entire group QB/WR were elevated when Doug took over.  With an off the field issue and coming off injury  we had to cut ties with someone like we did Marvin last year.  We should still have good talent at every WR spot.  Maybe we can get a difference maker somewhere else.  Kirk back from injury can cook in the slot.

We need a good 4th wr these days. Let’s hope it turns out well.

It was in the form of a twist on a gender reveal social media video.  They did a "who's about to be cut?" sequence.  They had someone cut into a cake and the number 7 was colored teal inside the cake and became visible once the slice was removed.  It was really cute.

Bummer. I liked Zay. I think he made the team better when he was on the field, but I am not sure it's 11 million dollars better.

I really think his first season was super memorable. He made big plays. Last year he was just banged up.

I hope a couple of the undrafted guys make the roster and/or push Parker and Cooks to step up to stay.

I agree with the above sentiment 100%. It’s just the nature of the business-not for long.

I like Zay as a person and as a player and think that he was integral in Trevor’s development.   I’m wondering how bad his injury is because he would have been a nice insurance policy. I’m guessing this frees up more opportunities for younger players to step up.
Respect the game.  Play with a sense of urgency.

1.)  Take care of the ball.  Win the turnover battle.

2.)  It's all about 3rd down.  Win on 3rd down to win the game.

3.) Playmakers make plays.  The only reason that you put your uniform on is to make plays. In order to EARN your paycheck, you must make plays.

Learn from the great collapse of 2023.
