Trevor Lawrence: Franchise QB (TL Discussion, Merged Threads)

Mahomes was not himself last year on the regular season and yet they won 11 games. I do however think Josh Allen is the man for his team but the fact remains that without Trevor, this is a bottom 3-5 team. We show less advertisements to registered users. Trevor is not in that bad of a situation in Jax. He doesn't need y'all defending him this hard. He is a good QB, Trevor knows this year he needs to show he can make the Jags actual contenders. Lawrence has had more pressure to deliver than any player in football b/c the Jags’ ability to win w/o him has been virtually non-existent." I read these stats differently than the original poster. When he has a lower than 90 Passer Rating the Jags aren't 'without him,' they are playing with his poor(ish) QB performance. I'd like to see this in a list of other teams for comparison, but my feeling is that most of the 'lower than 90' may be due to turnovers. Teams that win the turnover battle win 70% of the time, and that is an area that Doug Pederson himself has stressed that TLaw needs to improve in the off-season/season.

Tannehill would win us 9 games. Lol. Just as they make one post saying 'I don't think Trevor is bad' then a number of posts of how bad he is, apparently that's not criticising him. You can tell fans that watch the Jags regularly and those that don't from their Trevor takes. Does he have room to improve? Certainly. Is he anywhere near the biggest problems we have? Not even close. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! It's year 4 now, and results are needed at this point. Bingo We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

I'm not saying the Jags should get rid of Lawrence and sign Ryan Tannehill. I am saying there are lesser QBs that could get them to 9 wins. Franchise QBs make good teams be actual contenders for winning it all every year. Again, it's time for Trevor to show he is a franchise QB.

It's not so much that we're defending him. It's more that we are trying to help you understand a little more about this subject. I've heard lots of people with the "30,000-foot view" of things, who don't watch every game and don't follow the team avidly on a daily basis. Those people, perhaps you are one of them, rely on statistics like win-loss record, passer rating, touchdowns, etc., and those statistics are all readily available, and easy to understand, and it's all you have, because you are not a Jaguar fan who follows the team closely. I don't blame you for that. What you really ought to look at for starters is, do the people around the team, the fans who follow the team closely, approve of this deal? And the answer is a resounding yes. That should tell you something. And the second thing you should look at is, why do the people who follow the team closely approve of this deal? That's what we're trying to explain here. You call it "defending Trevor." I call it "helping you understand better what we are discussing here." And shouldn't that really be the point of this conversation? To your point about Ryan Tannehill. Put him on this team last year, a team that couldn't run the ball effectively and couldn't stop the run effectively, then take away his best WR, then give him a high ankle sprain, a throwing shoulder injury, a concussion, and a knee bruise, and see if he gets you 9 wins. I doubt it. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

I don't just go off stats for my opinion of a QB. I have stated several times now that Trevor Lawrence is a very good QB with a lot of talent. Because I don't rank him among the top 10 QBs in the league, does not mean I think he sucks, or never saw him play. I also don't think Dak Prescott, Brock Purdy, and Jared Goff suck, and they don't make my top 10 either.(06-15-2024, 01:16 PM)NFLfandom Wrote: You give me this Jags roster, give me Doug Pederson, sign Ryan Tannehill for me, and the Jags win 9 games easy.and those statistics are all readily available, and easy to understand, and it's all you have. And please show me where I said Trevor doesn't deserve the deal he got. I actually said the exact opposite of that. I also don't look closely at or really care about what "fans" who follow the team say or think about the deal. I certainly don't base my personal opinions of players off what fans think. And no, the Jags are not my fav team in the NFL, but I have have followed the Jags closely since 1995. I consider them my fav AFC team. And yes, I have watched more complete Jaguar games than any other team in the AFC. I didn't choose a Jaguars board to stop at for my health. Why you think I put up with getting harassed here, having my account suspended, and keep coming back? Maybe I follow the Jags more closely than you led yourself to believe.

Lawrence’s upside is he’ll be among the top 2 or 3 QBs in the league.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

I am saying that this team is good enough to have a winning record with a QB lesser than Lawrence. Ok, you think Tannehill sucks? Then we will go with Carson Wentz. The point is that it's time for this team to become better than just playoff contenders. How 'bout World Championship contenders. With a quality coaching staff, a good roster, and a "franchise" QB, just a 9 win season would be a failure in my opinion

I don't think you know as much about this team as I do. If a team has 120 running plays in a season that go for zero or negative yardage, which is second worst in the NFL, how can that team be a World Championship contender? If a team can't run the ball when they have to and can't stop the run when they have to, how is that a World Championship contender? Tell me. After 30 something career posts on this board since April 2024 it is clear to me what your opinion will always be on any subject you decide to address. It will be what can I say that is negative, the most decisive and cause the most grief. How can I do that and have the ability to deny I am doing it? Enjoy.
