If you look at the grand equation, the balance sheet that is our team FAR too often the D is putting us in a position where he has to be a football GOD just to keep up. Those turnovers hurt, and I get that. But cripes almighty that same kid tied the game with a minute left, we gave the D 70 yards and sixty-odd seconds to hold a backup QB, and we let them walk right down the field in one play.

The offense manages to undo their errors. The defense does not. You think our offense might look any better if the D could consistently get off the field in under 5 plays? Or played with a lead for a change?

If Tlaw doesn't commit either one of those turnovers, sure, yeah, the game MAY have been winnable. But then again, we can butterfly effect everything and then Love is the one with the chance to tie with a minute to go because he never hurts himself. You think our D is shutting him down? You think if a team NEEDS to find a way to eke out a few points against our D, they can't?

Which is the better indicator of failure, the number of 3 and outs surrendered by the offense or 3 and outs created by the defense?

If your argument is that he's overpaid, you're destined to a life cheering for the Minshews and Daltons of the league - sure, they're more affordable, but dang if you don't get what you pay for, and dang if none of them would be able to manage to keep this team as competitive as they are considering the surrounding cast.

Hines-Allen had a monster season with 17.5 sacks (should have been 18.5) in 2023 and cashed in. He’s proven that he can be a premier rusher off the edge. One of the biggest issues is DT and a franchise-worst secondary.

Hines-Allen could play the next 5 seasons with this same defense and probably wouldn’t get 20 sacks combining all 5 years. No matter what happens in the draft or free agency, the Jaguars have to do something at CB and/or Safety. Jones is a nickel. Brown is a backup, Johnson has had a rough year, and Cisco can’t keep up when the defense calls for man vs man. Either change the personnel or change the scheme but something has to be done. As of right now, I don’t think Cisco has a spot next year.

Word on the street is the Jaguars are still looking for a quality DT which would fix all 3 levels quicker than anything. Armstead is a joke.

...considering that we not only tossed FA money at the spot, but also two high picks, that's damning for a GM.

The turnovers in our own territory hurt, sure, but turning it over deep in our own territory is not typical of Trevor and the INT wasn't all on him in my eyes with both receivers essentially in the same spot. Turning the ball over in our own territory consistently was Bortles' forte and he rightly deserved criticism over it. If drops and untimely penalties weren't a consistent issue this season, more drives would have been extended, more points would have been scored and our win/loss ratio would be significantly different. TLaw's occasional misses this year haven't been anywhere near the biggest issue if they are even much of an issue at all.

Seeking a scapegoat to hang your frustrations upon is understandable. When you scape the wrong goat, though, you look foolish.

For as much criticism as the kid gets, which QBs do you think are capable of keeping us in the game in spite of the errors? There's not many, and NONE of them are available. There's a lot of QBs on his level, and they have their faults just the same. Perhaps the personal expectation is causing the personal anger. IOW, if one is expecting perfection, one is certain to be disappointed.

I know I'm accused of being a Trevor homer and coddler but it's because he's the best QB we've had back there since Brunell. I don't want to list all the terrible QB's but it feels for some fans Trevor is just the default guy to blame. If he throws 4 picks and the O do nothing, fine, take your shots but when he has a 300yd game, 2 TD's, 1 Rush TD and pulls us back from a 10 point hole in the 4th and that's still 'the reason we lost' then it gets a bit ridiculous.

There are posters like Enigma that I respect a lot and we have different opinions on Trevor and obviously that's fine. I just get frustrated when people take shots as they want him to fail.

The fifth year option (2025) was going to cost 25.7M, under the new deal he'll cost us nearly 9M less than that.

Have you REALLY seen that poor of performance out of him that you think we'd be better off pushing the reset button and starting from scratch with the next Bryce Young or Blake Bortles or some such? Let him play under the guarantee, while Dak gets a 60-million dollar deal  to reset the market (who has 1 less TD and 4 more picks, mind you), and we get to reassess this offer after that and other QBs get their shot to make the cost even more?

Truth. I would say he is one factor we are not losing by 20+ as there are a few of his teammates helping out. Issue is there are not currently enough doing that.  However, after looking at the contract I have to agree we could have paid TL a couple hours later. I see his point.

You can’t find QBs like T-law very often. He’s had some bad streaky play at times, but he’s the best qb the jags have had since #8 in the 90s. That’s the eye test. He’s super young still. The jags paying him will pay off. We aren’t getting a better qb than him for years regardless if you like his quarterback play or not. Be realistic.

Lawrence is a top 10 QB in the league I think. Every QB is inconsistent game to game, and TLaw hasn't had a good OL or running game seemingly ever. When he looks bad he looks REAL bad though. He was clutch last week when we needed him to tie the game at the end, and that was a big knock on him. Playing on a team that shoots itself in the foot every week just sucks. I think having players in the lineup now that still have something to prove could actually be a blessing in disguise. I think paying Campbell was a good move, he will be our franchise CB for a while he is definitely our best DB with Cisco being up and down. Darby was a bad move as was this entire FA class. Morse may have been the only positive addition.
