Trevor Lawrence: Franchise QB (TL Discussion, Merged Threads)

Instead of his play on the field just doing that all on its own

People see what they want to see.  I think it is time to move on myself but there is too much money invested now. Baalke really did put this team between a rock and a hard place.

Every year there is always some prospect most of the media has not heard about that breaks out into the NFL.  However, staying the same course and asking for different results is just hopeful wishing. He had that magical run in 2022. That same QB for whatever reason is not playing for the Jaguars. He is young but that doesn't guarantee anything.  This is year 4, how many years do you keep making excuses.  He is what he is.

How many head coaches to you think TL will get fired before he’s dumped?  I say just UM and DP.  The next coach will ride out the mandatory part of TL’s contract and then try another rebuild around another QB.

Every pass play has multiple options, it's up to the QB to decide which option he'll throw to.

We play with panic. That last drive we played with panic and fear as if we couldn’t even believe ourselves that we had a great chance to
Win the game.
Terrible play calling, terrible decision making, and a terrible throw in the end.

I’m tired. Tired of watching this. Tired of hoping. It’s whatever.

If Trevor ends up being a perennial all pro - I am obviously thrilled.

But if he doesn’t, and if he stays what he is now - I’m also fine with it. Screw it. Not worth worrying about anymore.

You cannot honestly be blaming Lawrence for the Urban Meyer year?

Watched Duke / UM yesterday. Cam Ward has his own issues.

This disaster wasnt really on Trevor...until the end.

It wouldnt matter if Justin Jefferson or Jamaar Chase was standing there instead of Johnson...he overthrew it for a pick. Plain and simple. You have to make that throw. Thats what you are paid franchise QB money for. With big $ comes big expectations. You are the hired gun. No attaboys or aw shites. You need 10 attaboys to cover 1 aw shites. Sorry if reality gets in the way here.

You honestly believe JJ or Chase (or any other actual receiver) wouldn't have at least made a better attempt on that ball?

DJ got bodied out by a linebacker. A receiver likely gets to the ball.

Nothing wrong with Trevor at all. Read my comments on the game thread. Summary is once they quit trying to FORCE the "Doug and Press" offensive system went up tempo and played a modern offense TL is comfortable with the offense caught fire. We have pissed away a season with Doug's pride doing this. He isn't stubborn he just will not change his approach ever. Pride is one of those seven deadly sins. It goes before a fall.

Don’t get me wrong it’s not there’s “nothing” wrong with Trevor. He’s good but he’s not great. And I don’t know if he ever will be especially given this franchises track record.

That said I expect nothing from Doug or press in terms of adaptation. That final series was all we need to know.

Lawrence is fine I think. This year is just a culmination of bad evaluations, bad cap management, bad draft choices and bad coaching decisions.

Lawrence has regressed along with everybody else. Each part of the team, again, has had it's share of letting everybody down on a weekly basis.

Doug has failed in hiring the right coach to carry his biggest weakness which is the defensive side of the football and Trent's personnel choices clearly have not worked with either coordinator.

We're not able to develop any consistency. We're not able to develop any identity. We just don't have the right people in this franchise at the moment.

This team still has lack of quality WR's despite investments made there along with injuries. The line play is still bottom level and it's now beaten up with injuries. Our RB room is also banged up.

Lawrence is decent, not elite. He could be elite if he had a front office and coaching staff that were on the same page. I think it's telling that it's year three with Doug and Press and we just now started seeing a few new things with him being under center, etc.

This team is a pain with an anchor at the moment. It's going to take strong willed leaders with the right vision and plan of attack to pull what's left behind from this wreckage in 2025 from the depths of despair.

I'm confident that was an owner decision.

I like Lawrence, but, just throwing this out there now with a relatively weak QB class in 2025.

If Jaxson Dart from Ole' Miss is there in RD3?

I am taking him as a draft and develop QB behind Lawrence and as a major insurance plan if I am the next General Manager and Coaching Staff.

Trevor rarely progresses beyond his primary read, and often throws into tight coverage. He's, unfortunately, an average NFL QB.

Yeah he is a good QB getting paid like a Franchise/elite one.

Maybe he can improve under a new staff, but he has some really bad habits.
