The Jags have 46 mil in cap space before cuts for 2025.

Why would they cut an actual contributor when they could cut players who aren't contributing?

They could cut Darby, Duvernay and Wingard and save the same cap space.
Duvernay is a solid returner - but we have Washington and that RB coming off IR.

The other two are cannon fodder at this point. Especially with a new defensive staff incoming.

It was just a joke at Baalke's expense (indicating he doesn't know how to spend the 'extra money' he'd get by cutting Engram), of course I had to explain it so clearly it wasn't funny.

I got the joke, bro.  You're good.  It's an artsy joke, and quite frankly most of us don't have the sensibility

There is an opinion that the mitigation of the scheme lacks the talent our offense has.

Kirk is all but gone, but I see a lot more in the connection betw Engram and TLaw and Engram is just an effort dude. He'd work in dang near any system regardless of who we bring in. I have a feeling he's a leader in the locker room, which is significant, especially during a transition.

15 million can go a long way and just look at what Strange did yesterday when he was given the starting role. He is a very good young player.

Engram is not worth the money when you have a younger and cheaper option. This is Cam Robinson all over again (even though I think Engram is much better at his position).

I like Engram but I like my QB more. Use the 31 million you save by cutting Kirk and Engram, upgrade the RG spot and add some beef to the IDL. Draft Graham, Hunter or Will Johnson in round 1.

I believe we save 6 if we part ways with Engram. To be fair, I'd rather eat the 6 and have him around (what is this "depth" people speak of?) than to put that hope in a rookie or guys like Deguara and Farrell. I don't want to re-up with the guy, but for that price, the juice isn't worth the squeeze.

There was atleast 1 person on here that thought Darby was fine when Campbell was out.  Dude was the worst corner in the league lol, was a comical comment really.  He been a decent corner over the years but every player on this defense has regressed.  When every player has regressed you have to look at coaching.

If you designate him as a post June 1st cut, it would save 15 million.

Look. I'm not saying it's going to happen but no one knows what the new GM is going to do. And down the stretch here, Strange is going to get a ton of playing time. The year 3 jump for tight ends is legit and Strange fits the profile. He's a much better run blocker than Engram as well.

This is also a very good tight end class. You could go the Packers route and draft a couple of them. This team has many straight up holes. CB2, RG, both safeties, IDL, WR2.... Cutting Engram doesn't create a hole on this roster but instead, gives them the ability to start the young TE they drafted while filling important holes on this roster.

It might happen. It might not. My point is that you shouldn't be shocked if it does happen over the summer.

Sadly it seems Baalke's class this year was subtraction by addition.

January 17th is the cutoff date for opting out of season ticket renewals. If Khan doesn’t clean house, I think there’s going to be a sizable amount of opt-outs by then.

The money you think we "save", the other 10 mil in dead cap goes against the cap next year.  If you do a post June 1st cut you also can't use that extra cap space until after June 1st when all the top FAs are gone.

He may have played his last game as a Jag.

Jags save 15 million if they release Engram and 16 million if they release Kirk.

Kirk yes, Washington can take his place. Engram no, he’s a matchup nightmare and he’s a great leader on the offense. Keep him.

Agreed.   If either of our top two TEs get hurt it's nice having the other guy as backup.

The Jags still need a #2 WR if they play a lot of double tight end sets.  It's not Davis or Duvernay.

I'm hoping they grab someone in the 3rd round this year that can step up and be that #2.   Someone about 6'1 or 6'2" that has speed and good route running.

The only way i think they let go of Engram is if they don't feel like he will come back 100%.  It's nice to finally have depth at a position.  Also i like what I seen from Strange last week but he hasn't showed enough yet to get rid of one of the best TEs in the league in Engram.  Strange doesn't even have 400 yrds yet in his 2 years here.  On top of being one of the better TEs in the league he's one of the few leaders on this team and one of our captains and the first one to have Trevors back.  If he gets cut it's because of his health for 2025.

Not disagreeing with anything you posted.  Just wanted to say that the only reason Strange hasn't been getting catches is because he's the 4th option on plays.  He's not getting targets, so you can't amass yards if the QB doesn't throw the ball your way.   And after last weekend we can see it's not because he's bad at catching or getting open.

Hes had opportunities before and couldn't do much with it.  It was good to see last week so let's see how he does against the Raiders D who isn't very good.

It's pretty clear flgatorandjags fan doesn't understand the full magic of post June 1st cut!  It unpromises promised money, it creates huge cap space at a flick of the wand, and it erases ALL bad decisions that a franchise has ever made.  You don't even have to use the post June 1st cut past June 1st anymore!
