Caldwell has to be done right?

I misread this for a second and thought he was fired this morning.

We got a 4th and a 5th for Monroe and drafted Aaron Colvin and Chris Smith. We probably got more out of those two than Baltimore did out of Monroe.

I, too, subscribe to the theory that he was likely to leave anyway (or command a huge 2nd contract) and he wasn't all that anyway.

That part was encouraging. The part where he said he still believed that we could win with a run/defense based philosophy was not.

I'm ok with the philosophy, to a point. The Steelers 3-4 was so successful for years because they were one of the few teams who ran that defense, and they had their pick of the lot of players who fit that scheme.

If teams are shifting to lighter, faster linemen and leaving the road graders on the table, maybe we end up getting a few steals in the draft, and steamrolling defenses that are light in the pants, so to speak.

The biggest drawback, as we saw in the years of Fred and MJD, was that once you are down 2 or more scores, run-heavy offense can't get you back into a game very quickly.

You have to at least have balance on offense, and be able to offset the run with some passing offense.  We've lacked that for a while, hopefully the recent changes start taking some of the pressure off the run game.
