So, what's going to happen with Minshew?

I didn't read the original article on ESPN (it's blocked unless you have a subscription.) But other articles mentioned it and that's what it sounded like. Or the very least that is what insiders believe they might ask for. If that's the case I think they could end up moving Gardner relatively quickly. That is a good bargain for another team that is looking to acquire another QB. It's interesting because Gardner has been taking reps with the ones. Granted that might be largely because Trevor is coming off an injury/surgery and maybe they didn't want to work him too much. And/or maybe they wanted Gardner to have at least some reps with the ones for various reasons. IT sounds like Gardner has overall been pretty solid during this OTA's and holding his own. From what I have read of reports so far, he's been no worse than the 2nd best QB on the team overall. And at times has looked like the best in certain areas like having good rhythm with the receivers. I can understand a coaching staff preferring to put certain people into starting spots. Including first round draft picks, with a lot of talent and upside. But I also think it's good to be willing to evaluate the QB position as needed. I wouldn't mind seeing Gardner/Trevor compete for the starting position. I do think that Trevor will more than likely end up starting, whether the staff considers having them compete or not. I do wonder if Gardner is on the move. Not only did more information come out about the Jags possibly trading him today and their potential asking price, but the Eagles just cut one of their QB's on the roster this afternoon. I wonder if they could be trying to make room for him. The last I read he was possibly headed to Philly. (That was the report from a little while ago from the Carolina Panthers reporter who said she heard Gardner there was a good chance Gardner would end up there). |
