Agreed but it's annoying how the local media keeps trying to say our FO is upfront, transparent and straightforward with the fans on everything. They clearly aren't and would be incredibly stupid to be! I want our GM to keep his cards close to his vest.

He was talking about the draft. Murray would be a 2 year stop gap for us at best until we get our franchise RB. So no, Caldwell did not lie.

Murray is a franchise RB.

No he isn't. He's 27 and has a lot mileage on him.
03-09-2015, 12:43 AM
And I'm not talking about what his production will be next year. I'm saying he doesn't have much of a shelf life. A franchise RB should last 6-7 years. Murray is not our franchise RB.

McCoy has been run to the ground and is gonna turn 27. Is he not a franchise RB?

A lot of mileage on a 27-year old player is the definition of a franchise running back.

I wasn't big on getting a RB in free agency, but based on the rumors and the Jags missing out on basically everybody I wanted, I don't mind grabbing Murray at this point, especially if we HAVE to spend the money. I would target Thomas, Buluga, and Murray.

Though we didn't get McCourty or Cobb, I think if we ended the first week of free agency having signed those three guys, I think we could legitimately feel the offense was improved.

Agreed fully.
I wouldn't mind taking a swing at Sam Acho later as well

Hope history is wrong.but RBs that have years like Murray did last year have a dramatic drop off. Then there's the Dallas OLine compared to Jags. Romo to Dez to keep the box open vs Bortles to Lee/Hurns/Robinson/Lewis. So Murray comes with plenty of caveats.

Yeah I think Thomas and Murray have the highest bust potential given what they're going to get paid/position, but we have to spend the money, and IMO these two are both worth it. We can talk about Peyton and that offense or Dallas and that OL, but we're getting a top 10 TE and a top 10 RB (being conservative here, both can be ranked higher).
When's the last time we've been able to say that here in Jax?
If rumors are true of Pernell coming to Jax to be our RT, then that solidifies our offense. A cheap veteran WR would help, but that can be done later in the FA. Just gotta plug that hole at FS, and I think we can do some bargain shopping or "prove it" signings and we should be ready to pick best avail in the draft.

There's likely a drop off. I don't expect Murray to average 5+ ypc like he did in Dallas. But I don't expect him to go off the cliff. If we can get two good years from him (like 4.4 ypc + ) to help out Blake, then I think its money well spent.

I like what I have heard thus far, but I don't know if I would declare RT fixed.
Fortunately for the Jaguars and the fans (and sadly for my own sense of self importance) my stamp of approval isn't needed.
This may prove to be a brilliant signing. I sure hope it will.

I don't know that RT is fixed either. But we needed to add competition there, Pernell does that. Granted he was in Dallas, but his PFF grade would have been the highest of anyone in our OL last season, ahead of even Linder.

Agree with most part. But bargain shopping with the most cap space will give us what? 5 wins this year?
IMO, I'd rather have swung for the fences for Suh. An immediate upgrade, and also improves players around him.
But, it isn't meant to be. Jag Life.
Parnell was a back up wasn't he?

I think if he has the foot quickness/nimbleness, he could be a good pass protector on the right side.
I'd like to see Marrone work with him.

If we land Demarco and Julius like the rumors seem to indicate, I'd hardly call that "bargain" shopping. Even Pernell at $6.5m per isn't a bargain.
