Quote:The circumstances around the record will hold a lot of meaning. If Bortles goes on IR they should just fire bradley at the beginning of the season to cut the "but he had no QB" stuff off before it can even start. Caldwell might be following him out the door. I think Caldwell has done a decent job overall, but I really don't like his reaching for need stuff. Fowler had better be a 10+ sack per year guy or Caldwell could be looking at ofer three on high first round picks.re

Are you insane? Caldwell had an epic 2014 draft rivaling some of the best in league history, and you think there's any possibility that Khan might even consider letting him get away???

The sprinkle thing went over my head.....sorry.

And btw, take a look at all the teams and how they finished last year. Parity has come to the nFL.

finish there and be healthy for ppost season.

I'm betting we'll be there 2016.

I subscribe to the Bum Phillips theory.

We were the youngest team last year.......kids have to learn and you KNOW the vets on opposing teams made it a mission to kick their butts.

On the other hand, our kids will still be still playing when those guys are long gone.

Welcome to the circle of life.

It seems that way to us now, but remember, if the Jaguars are uncompetitive and on the bottom of the league again this season what that really means is Bortles isn't performing. That would make the evaluation of Caldwell's first three first round picks uncertain at best. If the Jaguars are having to replace Bradley and Bortles isn't performing I don't see it as unlikely for house to be cleaned regardless of how positive we all feel about Caldwell's picks so far. I doubt the team would find a top coach that would want to come in for a potentially lame duck GM. It would be Mike Mularky all over again.
Bortles has shown immense progress. If for some reason that ceases, Gus would be the scapgoat. Caldwell is as safe as safe gets.

Where were all those "epic, rivaling some of the best in league history" players when the team went 3-13?

Some of them may prove to be very good, but it's way too soon to make that assessment.

When a team drafts six players that appear to be the best six players on that team's roster, that draft was one of the best in league history.

In my mind the Jaguars beat the Giants (at least when the starters were out on the field it was 9-3).  Eli had a bad game, and Odell was shutdown with no catches.

The run defense has been playing very well for the last two weeks, but they have to stay injury free McCray's injury worried me.  As CB depth isnt great.

Quote:It would take a bit of a miracle to not start 0-4 given their schedule this year. I'll gladly take 1-3.

Maybe I'm being way to much of a homer, but I can see us winning the first 2 games...  Miami and Carolina aren't exactly world beaters, at least I don't think they are...  We had a shot at beating the Dolphins last year, except for some rookie turnovers.  Carolina lost their breakout WR, and Cam Newton, while is proclaimed a top teir QB is very inconsistent, in my opinion.

If the Brady is out of the line up in week 3, we could win that one too...  The only game in the first 4 weeks that looks very difficult is the clots...
The Jaguars are favored in week one right now. I don't see how a miracle would be needed to beat a team that went 7-9 and just lost their only good receiver.

Have the lines changed? Last I saw, Carolina was still favored by 4

I saw they had multiple lines listed on foxsports.com over the weekend and had the Jags at -3 on each.

I thought they were 7-8-1? Big difference

Does that say more about the draft class or about the quality of the roster they're joining? Also who are the six? Bortles, Robinson, Linder, Telvin, and Colvin? Is Lee your sixth? He's done nothing to show he is better than even Cecil Shorts was so far.

Uh yeah...make that five. Still, that's an epic draft even though it does say a bit about the quality of the roster they're joining. It'll be interesting to look back in a few years at the 2015 draft to see if guys like Fowler, Yeldon and Sample join them as the best on the roster.

Quote:Last year at this time people were saying that they expected improvement in 2014 and the Jags to at least be competing for a playoff slot late in 2015.

Now I'm hearing six wins are OK as long as the Jags show "progress."

The evolution of expectations is NOT showing progress.
But if you don't lower the bar how can you expect people to get over it? Also Bortles looks like he might be good enough to mask the incompetence of his coach and semi incompetence of his GM.

Yeah, Bortles looking good. It's clear that Gus isn't a great coach, but he could be Bortles' Jim Mora until Khan is ready to hire a good coach.
