I'm skeptically optimistic, but that is subject to change as I see him coach more games and what the Jags look like in those games.

 

Results will matter eventually.

There have been some mistakes on Gus's part, but that's to be expected...Even coveted seasoned HCs make mistakes...It's funny when Caldwell was hired and tore the roster all pieces, and then hired Gus, everyone on this board knew and understood that this was a LONG project just to be competitive...After just 2 drafts, some have forgotten about this being a long process and want to blow everything up and start over with a new gm and coaching staff without allowing this current regime to get past the point of having to start a [BAD WORD REMOVED] pot full of rookies, UDFA, and late round draft pics...Apparently some feel that every player should go from college to playing like seasoned vets in a period of months instead of 2-3 years... This team was just about the level of an expansion team after Caldwell tore it apart...You can't expect fruit to taste good before it's ripe, and you can't expect a team to light the world on fire until they get the experience...My biggest worry now is having to learn another new offense...

I agree with that.  

The grade so far is "incomplete".  In the first two to three years of a rebuild, it's about getting the talent in place.  The Jags went very radical, not only overturning almost the entire roster but going very, very young in the process.  With that in mind, you have to know that the wins aren't going to be the main point the first couple of years and so the things I look for are...

 

Do players keep playing hard and refrain from finger pointing even when they're not winning?

Are there improvements in individual areas along the way?

Do observers outside of the fan base on a national level feel like the team is headed in the right direction?

 

Like C'MON JAGS said, results are going to matter at some point, it's all about accountability but having only won a few games in the first two years is not proof he can't get the job done.  I do want to start to see some payoff in year three and expect that to mean more wins although not necessarily a winning season.  I think when it does turn around, it's going to *seem* to happen very quickly.

This. I put more blame on the GM than the coaches for going overboard blowing up the roster. Guys like Daryl Smith and Eugene Monroe should have been re-signed for some veteran presence.


I think Bradley and his staff have done a great job of getting production out of late round draft picks and UDFAs, but you can't win in the NFL without players in their prime.

Bradley does not have the brains to be a successful head coach in the NFL.

Agreed...  I think the key word in the survey question is "still".  I still believe that Bradley is the right coach.  I thought the D really picked it up once Bradley took more control of that side of the ball.  I think Gus needs to continue to concentrate on getting our D to be world beaters.  To me, that will be the key to maintaining my confidence in him as a coach.

 

I think it was very smart of him to bring in 2 experienced offensive minds.  Whatever you think about Marrone and Olson's track record, it's indisputable that both those guys have been around the NFL a long time.  Gus can let them do their thing on offense while he focuses on the D and overall game plan.  

 

It's really a smart move on his part.  In my opinion.  If our D continues to improve and our offense improves to overall 20 ranking, we're gonna be in the playoff hunt.  I hope Marks comes back better than ever by the end of September.  I also think having Poz back will help as well...  Especially with our other young LBs showing that they can be good.  

 

We get a FS that can help our D and our secondary is set with McCray and Colvin starting and Gratz at nickel...  

 

Why not next year?  I could see it happen.  Why couldn't we go 9-7? or at worst 8-8?  I could realistically see it happen.  But the offense has to step up.

8 or 9 wins is possible I guess.

 

In order for this to happen, the team has to spend free agent money on getting Bortles help on offense. A veteran receiver and tight end would help. Adding a right tackle as well. We cannot go into 2015 with Pasztor and Sam Young as the right tackles. A turnaround from Joeckel would also have to happen. We have little reason to believe that will happen. But maybe Marrone can get him turned around.

 

On defense, I don''t think much has to change. They just need to get some speed at linebacker and probably a veteran free safety. If the offense can avoid going three-and-out for the entire second half, I think the defense can actually be pretty good.

Spend big on defensive line and linebackers this year to take the pressure off of the offense.


In four years when Bortles the receivers and the offensive line have gelled and reached their prime you can add one or two more key free agents on offense and the offense should be able to carry the team.

I would rather try and make one side of the football elite than both sides average.


I think you could add Gronk to this offense right now and the difference would be negligible because of the experience level at QB, WR, and OL.


The only thing that will make this unit better is experience.

Fisch is gone. I would consider that the right direction.

I still have faith, all the young players and lack of stars and such is huge impact on the team. Can they turn into stars and help us start winning? Thats what I hope for. At this point in time I do have faith in him, I hope his hires this off season dont doom him.
