The best defensive player I've ever witnessed.

For me, I'd have to give that honor to Reggie White, Bruce Smith and LT.

But Watt is building quite a resume.

Yes, he has feasted on the Jaguars and Titans.

The Jaguars have 14 other games against DEs not named Watt, and none of them have put up those kinds of numbers that he did against us.

I think Watt's stats have a lot to do with playing some of the worst lines in the league inside of the division, but I can't fault him for simply dominating with the hand he's dealt.

But when it's all said and done, assuming he stays healthy, I think Watt will be a first ballot Hall of Famer.
Honestly the US sports media and commentary is terrible for the love-in on certain players. Why can't they just shut up for a little while during the games and just talk about the plays?

I swear the first thing they said after Todman had a long run on Sunday was something about JJ Watt. Not about how well Todman ran but about JJ Watt.

I like the guy, he seems like a good guy and is a great player but c'mon, do you really need to talk about him every 3 minutes? It's like when they crossed over to the Browns game and made a huge point about Shaw being Manziels backups...we KNOW, you don't need to tell us AGAIN.

I think you're forgetting the Redskins game and the Ravens game.

Guys made it to the pro bowl on the back of the Jaguars offensive line.
There was a sign in the crowd Sunday of Watt going super saiyan... pretty epic, really.

edit- but he's no league MVP

People obviously forget what MVP stands for. If you were drafting 1st overall with an empty team and could choose any player to start your team, who would it be? If you choose Watt you should be fired immediately as a GM. He would be the first defensive player taken and therefore defensive MVP.

So you're saying taking the best defensive player in the league first would get a gm fired?  Seriously?

JJ Watt is a game changer and has made a team with terrible quarterbacks competitive.  If he isn't an mvp on the defensive side of the ball, then there will never be one.
Here is 2 cents from a Texans fan, so there may be a little bias. That being said, Peyton Manning feasted on a weak AFCS for years, but that didn't stop people from heaping praise on the guy. Just like Manning, Watt can't help but play the teams on his schedule.

Good post. I completely agree with you.
Some of you guys, geesh, put down the stats and open your eyes.  He is the best player in the NFL right now and it's not even close.  He has been playing at a historically dominant level the past few years and it's really cool to watch.  Will he win the MVP?  Probably not, he plays defense and his team didn't make the playoffs.

With that said, if i'm a voter, i give my vote to Watt out of respect for the way he plays the game, the role model he is, and the fact that not voting defense is a complete sham.  The only valid argument would be they arent in the playoffs, and that's fair, but he just plays at a level that no one else in the NFL is at.

As far as using the feasting on the Jaguars excuse, did you watch that safety?  That wasn't feasting on bad playing, that was making a ridiculous, eye popping, shaking my head play that is all Watt.  The guy is incredible, no excuses.  And to think he could be a Jag is just sickening!

People in the media also hated Tebow.  Everybody loves Watt.

It did from AFCS fans, at least some of those that I spoke with.

I love JJ Watt and defended him after some people on this forum were down on the pick after his rookie season. I think he's the best overall defensive player in the league over the last 3 years and it hasn't even been close. Having said all that, when 10 sacks are against 2 teams, that can and should diminish his value when weighing him as a MVP candidate. He's still be my #1 defender selected if I had that choice.

If someone like Aaron Rodgers was still there, ya.
Dude is a beast period. Certainly deserves consideration for MVP. He just did something no one has ever done in NFL history. Guy is a sack, pressure, turnover, knock ball down and score points beast.

One day he will have the resume to back that up, but we are watching the best and most dominant defensive player in our generation IMO.
He might get "best 2 way player of the year" or "defensive player of the year", but MVP, I doubt it.

He needed to lead his team to the playoffs, especially since he played in the weak AFCS, which has 2 of the worst teams in the entire NFL.

He'll probably get some votes for MVP from some Houston voters and those who are tired of QBs winning it every year.

He's great.  Some of you need to stop hating.

I'd make him the MVP as well.

I hate the Texans but there's no doubt in my mind he's the best player in the league. Most valuable? I would have to say no simply because defensive players traditionally don't score points, which is the way to win. But outside of that, he's MVP for sure.
