Quote:The fan support for the past several years has been terrific. With the weather, a not that attractve opposing team and a 2-10 record it was not really surprising this past Sunday.
The team has been awful for 3 years and people keep buying hope.
Eventually the hope will run out and the team has to win games.
and I don't disagree with that. given the circumstances and how bad this team has been. the city has shown up. im saying that its only a matter of time before that dwindles.

You've been hoping for that for a while.
Hasn't happened.
We've got a nice core of dedicated fans. Not that you would know.
Quote:I would bet the Jaguars capitalize their portion of the payment and the city capitalizes their portion spent. I just know that you cant have two entities (city and Jaguars) depreciating the same property for the full cost.
I was thinking Jaguars expense it all if they consider the money spent on the improvements as a "donation" to the city. Then the city capitalizes the full cost of the assets. But I don't know.
The IRS doesn't allow you to avoid depreciating a capital asset. They want to make sure you show a fair amount of income to get taxed. Expensing something considered a capital asset all in the first year would violate acceptable depreciation practices set out by the tax code and would be considered a form of tax evasion.
Quote:There were apparently 61k in attendance which is 90 something percent.
Yep for that game and they are averaging like 63K per game on the year. I think ESPN has them ranked 22 in attendance. Not bad for a losing team the past few years. I was at the Texans game and it was raining and cold......the clubhouse was packed
I would like to know which team sells the most tickets per victory. I'd bet a thousand dollars it's us. At least for the past 3 years.
The London game was a savvy business decision because it really raises the bottom line.

And lowers the winning line.
Home games played away are not an advantage. For fans anyway. For Khan? It's another perk for Kismet.
If those games are needed for the bottom line, what does that tell you about local support?
Quote:The fans didn't show up in the 2nd half so the team didn't either...

This was and I kid you not the most embarrassed I have ever been as a Jaguar fan.

I don't know about you but my entertainment dollars have evaporated. It tells me the area could use better wages from more jobs and an improving economy. Considering we haven't seen improvement overall, I think it tells me the solution for now is to get more money by moving a game overseas. It leaves the team in Jacksonville and the fan base is buying tickets the best they can. I don't take shots at the local support when the onfield product hasn't shown much improvement for years.
I am waiting for some stuff to work out for me financially and I will rejoin the ticket base. I support the team by buying from their website. That is the best I can do right now.
Edit:
Even when my job moved me to STL, I still bought stuff from the website and supported the team.

Were you there? Why in the hell would that embarrass you? You do realize that approx 90% of those seats were sold don't you?
I was at the game... once the rain gradually started to come down harder, the crowds fled for shelter. Before that, I actually was impressed with how big the crowd was, since it was a game against someone other than a legacy team. I'm actually surprised this is even a topic.

Exactly. The people who are "concerned" or "embarrassed" haven't a clue what they're talking about because they weren't there. All they know is a picture they saw on Twitter, or empty seats when the rain started coming down. The funny thing is that almost nobody was prepared for the rain or the cold weather that hit during the game because the weather reports never really indicated that either would be an issue. I know I was prepared for the rain, but the chill in the air was something I didn't anticipate. I still managed to stick around but a lot of folks did seek shelter. The concourse in our area, and the other covered areas around the stadium were wall to wall with fans who weren't leaving. Tough to see those folks when you're not there.

Don't you know a snapshot of something tells you everything?
Instant analysis. I mean who has the patience or brain power to see any truth beyond that?

The IRS does not regulate bookkeeping. If Khan wants to show a loss, he isnt pulling out his tax return.
I agree though, whatever Khan spent and the city spent should be capitalized on their own books.
So if Khan has 25 mil of Khans own money depreciated over 15 years with lets say 15% residual value, that is 1.4 mil expense every year. I admit sounds like not a big deal for an nfl team, but thats assuming the jaguars do well on their owb apart from shared revenue.

I know you are trying really hard to be like fbt, but everything you say doesnt need to have a smug remark.

Im not the one who posted that pic. That is not really what im talking about. That might be part of it. My main concern is that we are probably 2-3 years away from being real contenders. The "dedicated" fans are not enough. We need the fair weather folk to get/stay invested.
Quote:This was and I kid you not the most embarrassed I have ever been as a Jaguar fan.
It was a little embarrassing but let's also keep it in perspective. That picture being circulated was near the very start of the 3rd quarter. People did come back out by the middle of the 3rd quarter. I suspect a lot of people were probably like me who believed the forecast for it to be in the low-60s and no rain until after the game, so we didn't really dress all that warmly. Jags still sold over 61K tickets and are 22nd in the league in attendance so it's not like no one is buying. (I stayed in my seat the whole game by the way, no complaints here!)
The Winn Dixie promotions were more embarrassing. You had a coach who didn't want to do the commercial.

LOL!
If the jags tried to claim a loss the IRS would be all over their books because that would mean they weren't paying taxes because there is no income tax when you show a loss.
