Quote:i honestly really really wish he didn't look as bad as he has.  the first 3 quarters the offense was lifeless except for the first drive, which is scripted.  garbage time completions are just that, garbage

He's Chad Henne is disguise!!!!!!!!!!!
Quote:The defense was the laughing stock of the NFL today and everyone's complaining about the QB? Now that's funny.  There were 4 missed tackles for every tackle made.  Looked like a Pop Warner game with Bryant and Murray running down the field shedding everyone in their path.

this thread is about the QB, if you go over to the defense thread you can complain about that there

lol
Quote:so he's played good?

He hasn't played bad either.

I'd hate to hear what you think he should do to play 'good', if this is 'bad'.

Guess we ought to wait a decade for the next Luck to come out, and until then forfeit all of our games by your standards.

8-14 TD-INT is pretty bad.  Im not suggesting the team do anything but stick it out with Bortles.  At the same time I'm not really liking what I'm seeing.  even for a rookie, he's got some big issues that I'm not sure will ever improve to the point where he's a solid starter in the league.

I'd love to believe that he's going to be the next Big Ben.... I just dont see it right now.  Maybe he suddenly gets better before the year closes out.  idk
Its not a stretch to say hes been pretty bad so far, even for a rookie. That doesnt mean he cant improve though. Im just worried because without a doubt his ball placement has not been very good. Maybe he fixes it next year with better mechanics. I dont know, but as of now hes a mess. I really couldnt care less about this year, and Ill wait till next year to make a final judgement. But as of now he needs to improve a LOT.

he has rookie mistakes which are the bad decisions, etc.... but what worries me is how inaccurate he is.

I'm not talking about throwing ducks (which he does), It's about how many balls are too low, too high, behind the receiver, etc..

He makes run after catch opportunities harder for our receivers because half the time they have to dive just to catch the ball.

Exactly. But people will just point out completion percentage, which is boosted a ton by all the screens Jedd calls. Allen Robinson is making tons of difficult catches away from his body to bail Blake out every week.
He's got a long, ugly throwing motion.  I'm watching the Sunday night game right now. Aaron Rodgers throwing motion is a thing of beauty. Short, compact with lots of velocity.

1/10 - Back under your bridge.
Blake's throws just look like they take a lot of effort.  He gives it his all and then half the time it's terribly inaccurate.  Even last week he threw 2 touchdowns where the receiver bailed him out.

Luckily, this is the NFL and the receiver is supposed to make a play, but there's a CB on the other side who have too many chances to also make plays (which is what they get paid to do).

I wish he keeps the defender's opportunities of making plays on the passes he throws to a minimum.

I hope his timing and accuracy with the receivers improves because that will yield more big plays and more run after catch opportunities, while limiting possibly costly turnovers.

I see him being played and it doesn't appear to be very difficult for the defense to stop what we do.

Bortles footwork is terrible.  Look at Aaron Rodgers throwing mechanics and footwork. Perfection.

Robinson did make a ton of tough catches today. Most were thrown behind him or when he was blanketed.
Luckily, Bortles is kind of "as advertised"....

we knew he had terrible footwork, we knew his accuracy isn't the best, we knew that he locks onto his primary receiver too often and stares him down.  He has shown the scouting reports were very accurate.

The question is, will he develop and

fix his footwork

throw with better accuracy

and most importantly, do a better job of making decisions pre and post snap

If he can, he's got a very high ceiling.

If he doesn't (and yes - that's a real possibility), we're looking at a frustrating turnover machine.

Should have drafted Garoppolo.

trolling isn't interesting to anyone

I know right? A nine year veteran having better footwork that a guy who's been on the job 7 months. Your ability to make valid comparisons is astounding.

LOL.  You're not good at this.

Touche.  You could make a thread about how bad everyone played today except Scobee and Anger.
In the previous 3 games to this one Bortles played horribly, in this Dallas game he played not horribly.  Its good enough for him to go into the bye with positives, to learn and grow.  Historically some first year players have show great improvements after bye weeks as the learn the NFL.  I expect Bortles will be one of them.
