Quote:Should have drafted Garoppolo.
I guess you wanted people to take you seriously after that statement.
Bortles will only be as good as the talent around him.  You give him an O-line with late round picks/undrafted FA's, no good TE's, a bunch of rookie WR's - what do you expect?

Marcedes Lewis has been hurt - again.  Most overpaid TE in the league.

Cecil Shorts is always hurt.

Lee has been a huge disappointment.

The bottom line is - you don't know what you have in Bortles until he's put in a better situation.

Eh, he's still throwing it right to the defense.
Quote:I thought today was his best game. His decision making took a step forward.
I don't know that I'd call this his 'best' game, but he didn't throw a ton of picks in spite of being pressured regularly. He actually threw a few away and took a sack rather than risk a turnover, so I see that as a positive step in decision making. However, I also noticed that too many of his passes were.... sloppy; inaccurate, wobbly affairs that left me scratching my head.

Still... Blake didn't lose us this game; he did have one int, but that was due to a poorly thrown ball, not to poor decision making.

It's hard on any QB when receivers cannot get separation from defenders.

It's getting to the point again where the defenders look to be squatting on the underneath routes.  Linder being hurt is a big loss for the Oline, which can't seem to protect him long enough for him to throw a pass to a longer route.  Another thing that's not being talked about is Dallas having a VERY good defense against the pass, so there's that too.

I did see one problem yesterday for the time I was watching.  On Mincey's sack, Blake could have stepped up into a wide open field which would have given him another 2-3 seconds to throw the ball.  He's normally good at climbing the pocket but for some reason he didn't even try on that one.

Mincey was hardly impeded at all by Joeckel.  There was no climbing the pocket on that one.

Quote:Really? My god this board smh....

OMG, this is wha tive been saying for a while now. This board is the worst. Someone needs to create another one to rival it.

Really?  I was watching, and there was no way he could climb the pocket there.  There was no time to react.
Bortles made improvements over the previous game, but the defense and special teams failed horribly yesterday.

Quote:Taking a QB early in the first in consecutive years is unwise IMO.  Especially when every scouting report ever written on the first one said "raw."

He's got major work to do.  I think a full offseason being treated as the starter will make a significant difference for Bortles.

I'd take a mid round tackle and sign a FA guard to bolster the line (at least create some depth that isn't a total liability) and draft a TE before the 4th round.  Let the kid figure some stuff out. He looked bad in London - but it's still really, really early on in the grand scheme of his career.  Not time to second guess the pick yet.

Ah the voice of reason... you have no place on this message board.

Man this board would be so fun if everyone agreed on everything this team does!

This board would be so much fun if everyone didn't have kneejerk reactions to everything.

I mean I get that everyone's patience has worn out.  Everyone gave Blaine Gabbert a chance, and now they're afraid of giving Bortles the same chance, even though he's looked 100x better than Gabbert ever did.  (Idiots will deny this.  How easy it is to forget how terrible Gabbert was.  I'm sure San Fran would take a straight up trade faster than you can say Harbaugh)  The kid appears to be regressing at times, but that's going to happen when we've got injuries on the O-line, forcing him into situations where he reverts to old habits.

I like Bortles and think after the Bye week he is going to play much better.

It's Bradley that I don't like.

The only other rookie QB in franchise history was Blaine Gabbert. This fan base is shell shocked.

Not true!  We also had Leftwich.  57% completion percentage.  2819 yards.  14 TD's.  But only 16 INT's!  (We only look at INT"s around here).  Guess that's why so many miss Gabbs.  He only had 6 int's his second year in 10 games!  Granted he only had 1662 yards.  And Bortles in 8 games has passed that.

That's fine.  But I think a lot of people are taking it to the extreme with not giving Bortles a chance here.

I tried so hard to forget those years. Now my PTSD is acting up...

Well dummy. No one agrees on everything this team does. But some of us live in reality.
