Quote:Watkins has the next gear Blackmon doesn't have, he also runs good routes, and has more consistent hands
I disagree, I think both guys can run away from defenses but neither possesses elite game breaking speed, again they're similar athletes (Watkins ran a 4.43 and jumped 34 inches, Blackmon ran a 4.45 and jumped 36 inches). You have no idea who the better route runner is unless you're watching tape, I seriously doubt you're doing that, both guys have great hands. There's a reason why both Blackmon and Watkins were top 10 picks, both players are extremely talented and dominated the D1 level.

Go look at the numbers.

Quote:I do agree that Blackmon is not on the AJ Green/Calvin Johnson/Julio Jones level. Not many people are on that level. Jordy is also a very underrated WR and I would put Demaryius in that group.
He is a very very good WR though.
Antonio Brown is an elite route runner with elite acceleration. Dude is phenomenal. These guys also have Big Ben, Matt Ryan, Stafford and Dalton throwing them the ball. We have not had the best luck in the world when it comes to QBs. If we can get Blake to that level, you will see ARob consistently around 100 yards and a TD. If Blackmon plays, he will be right there stats wise with those guys. More of a Roddy White type of guy.

Elite quickness as well.

Quote:Antonio def plays faster than 4.6
It's because he accelerates fast and is incredibly quick in small spaces, he's just not a straight line speed guy.

Justin is gifted but he doesn't have elite athleticism which is his only "drawback"

It doesn't matter if he's not on the field

4.45 40 and jumping 36 inches is incredible athleticism, I think he's a good enough athlete to dominate this level.

His speed is not. (it's still very good though) His self-control is the the polar opposite.
I think if he plays a full season healthy, he's easily a top ten receiver in the league - possibly sneaking into the top five.

I agree NYC. His best attribute is one that isn't measured with a watch or tape measure.

You hit it right on the head, Larry Fitzgerald never had elite speed, he's had good enough speed with amazing body control and hands, very similar to JB14.

If that is incredible athleticism then what superlative adjective would you use for the actual freaks like Megatron/Julio...or even Arob who ran a 4.47 and a draft class best 42" vertical (a whopping 7" higher than JB) at 6' 3".

Pretty sure jimmy smith wasn't a sub 4.5 40 guy and he was 6-1.... not mention he wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed, but the guy had 12000+ yards receiving. . Height/speed stats don't tell the whole story.

You already used the adjective, "Freaks".

I don't know why y'all keep trying to make these comparisons. Blackmon played backyard football at OSU and has very lazy routerunning

Don't try to discount Justin Blackmon's athleticism by comparing him to world class athletes, if you truly don't believe that a 4.46 40 and a 36 inch vertical leap doesn't constitute as "incredible athleticism" then you're clueless, or never participated in any sport that required you to run a 40 or test your vertical.

Justin Blackmon's measurables percentiles vs other WR prospects dating back to 1999:

Again, precise route running takes time, typically years, very few WR's come into the league as good route runners, especially in todays' college spread offenses. There's little reason for me to believe Justin won't improve as a route runner, btw, Larry Fitzgerald as a rookie caught 58 passes for 780 yards and 8 td's, Justin caught 64 for 865 and 5 TD's.
