Coincidence? I think not

Edit: forgot topic, uummmm,.....Gerhart has chicken legs.
that is the coolest looking bus I've ever seen!
Since I doubt very seriously ANYBODY on this forum knows Gerhart like I do from a fan standpoint, watching him since he was a sophomore in high school..............I will be as objective as possible. Yep..............something is definitely amiss with this guy. He is NOT the RB I knew he "could be" but hasn't for whatever reason. Personally, I think he's gotten fat and I think he's gotten rich and has lost all of his motivation that brought him the accolades "prior" to coming to the NFL. He's definitely bigger and bulkier than he should be. He clearl;y could lose at least 10-15 pounds which would make him faster and more elusive. But, frankly I think he has LOST his desire to be the beast we all hoped he would be. Maybe married life has gotten him complacent. Something's going on with him because the opportunity he clearly had to be "thee guy" here has been squandered. Some of that was beyond his control (injuries) but he can't use that as an excuse any longer. As his biggest fan who has followed him a long, long time it saddens me to see him like this. I think his main problem is between his ears as much as it is his overweight issues. He's slow to the hole, he doesn't even look for openings, he smashes into his own people allot and it's almost as if he has forgotten completely how to be an NFL running back. Unless he changes FAST.........he's gone at season's end.......as he should be. It really bothers me to see him like this.

Quote:Slowby is still on the team because after McCray kicked Gus's dog, Slowby nursed him back to health.
can't stop laughing
JJ.......you just said it all. Slow to start, doesn't look for openings and just falls down......

He might be gone before season end if he keeps performing (or NOT performing) like he is.

I will eat crow.  I thought last year we could get the michael turner, the stanford great white toby.  Alas, he SUCKS.

I just want the guy who played in that insane 2013 Minn vs. Baltimore game to show up and play that way for us:

15 carries, 89yds, 1 TD, 5.9ypc

Where's that guy?!? Could you imagine how good this offense would be if that guy ever showed up to play every Sunday?

Quote:He is the gabbert of rb's...... I admit I fell for the hype in the offseason but now I think Minnesota oline is just really good

This part gets overlooked a bit. I'm not really defending Gerhart, but he really has had crap run blocking in front of him.

Quote:So we have one of the top 3 TD catching Tight ends in the game and a QB who is best when rolling out and yet we don't even attempt a play action? Or even a sneak? Or even Yeldon who had been gaining yards on them?

What's the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over and getting the same result.
this.

doesnt matter, his vision sucks as well. Bad vision, slow, not a good blocker, probably cant jump high enough to get over the line if he wanted to, when you have all of that a rb will not be very good. He isnt even a good short yardage back, even before he got stoped 4 straight times last week. It happened a couple time last year also when we needed a yard and he couldnt get.

I still disagree that he's not a good short yardage back. You said a couple times last year and I wont argue, but overall those instances are hard to recall. Before the four stops vs the Bills, when I think back to all of his attempts needing to convert something like one yard, he's usually come through. You have to really look to find instances where that's not the case. Now against the Bills it was glaring because the Bills defense stood up and stopped him. Now, there was one down where he kind of fell early and maybe if he kept his feet something might have happened, but the other three it's tough to say it wasn't primarily the run blocking at fault. More times than not, Gerhart is converting short-yardage attempts, but I'll admit this is more true in the middle of the field as he does seem to lack that "nose for the end zone" we see if a few rare talents like the Chiefs Marcus Allen and the Jaguars Jonathan Stewart from back in the day, and the Panthers Mike Tolbert. I thought he was that guy (not Marcus Allen, but the other two in short yardage...it's a given he's not good for anything else), but the Bills game proved that wrong. At the same time, I honestly don't fault the coaching decision so much. Coughlin did that all the time with Jonathan Stewart, and nobody gave him a peep of flak for it because Stewart came through.

He shouldn't even have a spot on this team.
Slowby averaged 0 YPA which is higher than his average over the last few games of -5 YPA.

BTW, that rugby player, Jarryd Hayne, who was taking names this Preseason with the 49ers is available.

Didn't he come back down to Earth in the regular season though? It's also worth mentioning that Hayne is 27 years old, only one year younger than Toby, and may not have all that much physical maturation or development left to do after his rugby career.

Still, though, Gerhart adds nothing on the ground that Pierce couldn't do, and Hayne is a competent return man. Considering how godawful we are at picking up yards in the return game right now, bringing in a guy who flashed in that area, even at Toby's expense, is a worthwhile thought. If he develops as a running back--and Jim Tomsula gave no indication that he wasn't doing so, saying simply that they wanted a bigger back with Hyde out--that's just icing on the cake.
I literally think Chad Henne is a better running-back than Gerhart

I'd take Hayne over Gerhart

Stacey Mack was better than Stewart.
