To the dismay of some posters, the Jaguar coaches listed the responsible parties for the 10 sacks on Sunday:

6 sacks credited to missed blocks by the O-line.

2 sacks credited to receivers running the wrong route.

1 sack credited to a RB for missing a block.

1 sack credited to Henne for holding the ball too long.

I think some people's heads are gonna explode!

But but but the coaches are trying to screw the fans by not playing bortles!
I believe this. I think fans WANT it to be Henne's fault because we all want to see Bortles. And I'm sure Bortles could have avoided one or two of those sacks but he's still a rookie, our wide receivers are still rookies, we still have two rookie lineman starting, and the defense still gave up 41. We want Bortles, so we'll blame Henne

I think a lot of fans want to blame Henne because it's a nice, neat, simple-minded way of looking at the problem. They can vent all their frustrations on one guy and not have to think too much. It lets everybody else off the hook- players, coaches, and GM.
you people will believe anything the coaches tell you

And some people will only accept their rather limited understanding and perceptions as the be all and end all of what's happening in spite of the evidence presented.

That's one of ten that's entirely on Henne, with nobody else contributing to it at all.

If a receiver runs the wrong route, there are other options than throwing the ball to the defender where they should have been and hanging onto the ball until you're sacked. You can throw to a different receiver. You can throw the ball away.

This is very much the positive Henne spin on the sacks. Most people would probably put some of the blame on him for about half the sacks.

And some people, of course, would blame him entirely for all ten of them. Wink
I find this extremely hard to believe. There were multiple plays where Henne walked into sacks or didn't use the entire pocket to avoid rushers. A qb is gonna get sacked if he stays in one spot the entire time.

Not sure why the coaches are treating Henne like a rookie. No need to protect the fragile veteran.
When an offense is blitzed that much, a young offensive line is bound to make mistakes, so yes the offensive line is directly responsible for those sacks.

Why is the opposite DC calling so many blitzes though ? Wouldn't it be because they know Henne can't make them pay ?

An example here :

Haslett blitzes everyone on the right, leaving Mike Brown open, Henne doesn't pull the trigger at all and is nearly intercepted forcing the ball in the middle to Marqise Lee.

Henne got sacked here. There is plenty of room to step up in the front but Henne drifted back and ran right into the 2 defenders. Sorry but a qb should be able to step up here. Plenty of space.

Have a few more ill post in a lil bit.
Even if this is true, Henne still had a terrible game. With his track record, I could only assume another implosion from him against Indy. If he turns good Henne Sunday, great, I always want the jags to do well. If not, it's another step closer for him to get out of there. He is so difficult to watch.

Can't wait for FBTs thoughts on this article. I'm sure he will be salivating to post the I told you so.

This isn't a new story. It was talked about yesterday in other threads.

Wouldn't be a big play but the check down is there. Just dump it to gerhart.

lee is open. Should be a fairly easy throw but Henne sees the rush and does the Gabbert (squat down and stop looking to throw). Henne takes a sack here but the ball should have been released before he was hit.

Pocket is fine but Henne drifts towards the pass rushers. Could easily go the opposite way and see an open Allen hurns. He walked into another sack.

Just to show Robinson (I believe) is open.

Same play. Instead of taking a few steps back to avoid Kerrigans arm, Henne decides to move forward making it very easy to get grabbed and ultimately sacked. The pocket is fine if he stays back some.

Coaches flat out lying. Don't believe me then believe lags. He said 4 were on the o-line and the rest on Henne.
OK, I guess Henne wasn't as bad as some of us thought in regards to holding the ball too long, not finding the open receiver, not recognizing the pressure that was coming, and not adjusting to pre-snap indicators from the D.

At this point in Gus' coaching, I will defer to his analysis.  He and his staff know more about what's going on than I do.  My gut tells me otherwise, but that could mean I need to stop eating spicy foods and take more pro-biotics.

Kind of hard to dispute. I just see excuses by the coaches, no matter witch way you cut this crap sandwich.
Those pictures are great. Room to step up, open receivers, check down available..... START BLAKE BORTLES
So what. Coaches wont tell you he's been in the league for 7 years and is trash and has done squat with his time. I dont care if he wasn't responsible for none of the sacks. Quite funny we drafted a player 3rd overall and plenty of folks are fighting not to see him play. That's cool if that's your stance but don't be mad at the folks who do wanna see him instead of your favorite stiff. But I have enough factual data that proves Henne sucks.....for years in the NFL and is not gonna get better.
