Quote:Well, once (if) he actually starts playing well, then they won't be.

The season hasn't even started yet
Quote:Add him to the list.

Can't wait for every thread to be derailed into some dig at Zane Beadles.

I see the Cyprien and Gratz off-topic remarks have vanished, so there has to be a new target.

Well hopefully he can flip the switch then.
Still trying to find fault in the Jags fiscal reasoning. They identified weaknesses and tried to remedy them. They signed an improvement at Guard and attempted to sign an improvement at Center. They just happened to be up against a team with more cap space than us. The Browns stated up front that they would match any deal. The Jags made a VERY fair offer. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

The team tried to get Mack and it was a longshot.

There really was not much they could do that Cleveland could not (would not) match.

In the end, all they were out was a steak dinner and a plane ticket.
Agreed. The player genuinely seemed like he wanted to be here too. I didnt lose sleep over it then and I wont lose sleep over it now.

By your own admission, the Browns had more cap space than us, so it obviously was going to take more than just the Jags making "a very fair offer" to land Mack in this instance. It was a situation where they had to make the Browns blink and they didn't.

It was nearly impossible.
When will we start hearing about who the team got off waivers & who's on the practice squad?

I'm guessing close to 4pm. Thats when they become official, IIRC.

You don't offer more than you want, regardless of what the other guy does.  If you go into an auction and decide you only are willing to spend x, just because the other guy will spend x+1 doesn't mean you should.
NOOOOOO.........you wind up screwing yourself when you "try to make the other team blink". They didnt HAVE to do anything. They made a move and it didnt work out. It happens.

And now were left with swiss cheese to protect Bortles. (at least for this season).

Mack would have been a solidifying force to that OL.

I get that you usually don't want to get in bidding wars and overpay, but this was a unique situation with a player that has a multiyear proven track record of elite play, leader on the OL, as well as us being in the situation of knowing we were going to draft a QB, so tightening up the OL was of utmost importance.

I might even venture to guess that had Mack been got, that it might have sped up the Bortles insertion into the starting lineup.

First off: *we're

You never get into a bidding war on a player.  No matter how nice the short term victories are, you will always lose in the long run.  Either you front load a deal and cut the player after two years and you're left with nothing, or you spread it out and are hand cuffed in cap room.

I'd say keeping Bortles unbroken would be winning the war.
So Mack is gonna grow 27 foot arms and play C along both G positions? Fascinating prospect....

Bro, you're making my head hurt and i've got homework to do.

Right, because you've never heard of the concept of one standout veteran on an OL (especially at C) helping to make the players around him better...

Get back to that homework.....6th grade can be challenging at that age.

I believe teams can start announcing as early as 12pm ET who they claimed off waivers and who is on their Practice Squad.   Some teams announce the information early on.   If history is an indication,   some teams won't announce their full P.S.  until tomorrow or Tuesday.
Only thing I've seen so far is Michael Sam going unclaimed.

The Browns said they would match any offer. They could top anything we might put up. We weren't going to overspend on him to placate some wannabe bar stool GM in New Joisey.
