Quote:It seems like a lot of people started out saying Shorts was too valuable to trade, now they're saying Boone is too valuable for the 49ers to trade him for Shorts. Which one is it?
Personally, if I had the opportunity to make that trade, I would do it. That's all I'm saying.
I think Shorts has more value to this team than what we could get for him in trade. SF is going to command a significant cost to trade him, more than what Shorts is worth, and more than what this team would be willing to pay. At the end of the day, he's still a guard. If he's the highest paid guard in the league, it'll be elsewhere.
Quote:The 49ers aren't going to trade a probowl caliber guard for an above average wide receiver.
Agreed. Bigger picture, Shorts is an average receiver. He's still the best, most experienced receiver on this roster.
Quote:ruhhh roooo.. those aren't facts.. they are opinion.
It's pretty well established that TMD can't differentiate between the two. All that IQ isn't enough to power a pop gun.
Quote:Yea lets trade our only proven good receiver to another team for a non-premium position 3 weeks into the preseason. Great idea.
Ask any team with interior offensive line issues if the Guard/Center position is a "non-premium" position, if you want to run the ball, you better have some darn good guards and a center. Seeing how the running game opens up the passing game etc.., I would say every position on the offensive line is a premium position.
Quote:Shorts is more worthy than Riley Cooper, yes....
Is that some grand compliment???
Grand compliment? No. You're not capable of grand compliments, especially when it's a player you are fixated on.

Shorts has too much value to us, this season, to discuss trading him.
Boone is too good of a player for the 9ers to trade him, especially for a #2 WR like Shorts (they have a few #2s already rostered.)
IF the 9ers wanted to trade straight up, we'd be silly to not take the trade.
But they never would. And we wouldn't be willing to part with Shorts and a pick for him.
Boone wouldn't really fix our Oline issues. As good as Linder may have done in his limited work there, Linder is still a G.
Moving him to C and putting Boone at G might work, but Linder could struggle at C.
-shrug- people are itching for conversations on the edge of the regular season I suppose
Quote:Howdy Jags fans. To start off on topic, I think that just about every player in this league (with very few exceptions) is expendable. A wide receiver that has never had a 1,000 yard season and is one severe concussion away from retirement easily falls into this category as long as the price is right. Although Cecil has potential and has had some great games, he could easily be replaced - and his replacements are likely on the roster already.
On a side note:
FBT's play by play posts and comments about the OTAs = really cool. Been reading them for years. Long before I became a member here 4 years ago.
FBT's constant stalking of nearly every post and comment that TMD makes, usually including personal insults about his profession = really, really old and lame.
FBT, when I click on your profile, it mentions that your interests are "Jags, politics, faith, and family." I am not aware of any faith that condones bashing other people based on their career or status in life. Just my two cents.
Yes, every player is ultimately expendable in the league. Still, you don't trade a player away without knowing you've got a viable replacement on the roster. Right now there's no guarantee any of these rookies will fill that role.
Regarding the rest, it's only a personal insult if it's false. Ask TMD what he does for a living besides aspiring to design t-shirts and deliver potato chips to grocery stores. Noble professions all, but none offer him the kind of expertise required to run an NFL franchise.
You say I stalk his posts. If you are checking out my profile, I'm going to assume you've got some background in the whole stalking thing.
Finally, a Shorts for Boone trade would certainly be appealing to Jaguar fans. Not so much to the 49ers.

Value of Shorts to the Jaguars =/= value of Shorts in comparison to Boone.
Quote:Uh oh, FBT won't like those facts.
....and for the record I'm NOT a fry cook...thats just his little dig that he says and his minions believe as if its gospel.
I'd suggest you buy a dictionary and look up the word "Fact", but it's wasted on you.
For the record, you work in the food services industry, and there is the potential to be burned by a deep fryer or splattering grease where you work, yes?
Look at the WRs we have on the roster.
Hurns
Robinson
Lee
Brown
Sanders
Kerry Taylor
Tandon Doss
Cecil Shorts
Assuming we keep 5, which two do we cut? Hurns, Robinson, and Lee are locks. Sanders is on a 4 game suspension, but Gus has said he will welcome him back when he comes back, so I have to assume he has a spot. That leaves Shorts, Mike Brown, Kerry Taylor, and Tandon Doss. Doss was a free agent signee, so I assume they have a role for him. That's 5. Hurns, Robinson, Lee, Doss, and Sanders. Kerry Taylor and Mike Brown get cut. And what do we do with Shorts?? If we keep him, whom do we cut among Doss and Sanders?
Who do we have at RG? Linder, McClendon. Who do we have at C? Brewster, Bowanko, McClendon.
So if we did not make this hypothetical trade, it's not just a question of keeping Shorts and not having Boone. It's a question of keeping Shorts, and not having Boone and not having either Doss or Sanders.
So if we have a choice between Boone and Shorts, we'd be crazy not to take Boone. I don't see how anyone can argue against it.
So Shorts is our only experienced WR? Boone would be our only experienced RG. Does that not count just as much?
Whether the 9ers would make such a trade is a totally different question. You can't argue against the trade by saying it would never happen. It's hypothetical. We all know that.
It's like if I said, if someone offered you a million bucks for your watch, would you sell it. And half of you say, no, my watch is way too valuable to me to do that, and the other half of you say, it would never happen, no one would do that. OF COURSE you would sell your watch for a million dollars. You'd be crazy not to. Would anyone ever offer you a million dollars for your watch? That's not the question.
So, would you trade Shorts for Boone? Of course you would.

LOL, in the beginning of the thread you were acting as if Shorts was a "must keep".
flop

He also mentioned in an earlier post that the Shorts trade would be interesting in the future.. not now. I don't think he is flopping.

That was NYC that said the trade would be interesting in the future, IIRC.
FBT initially was all about : "OMGZZZZ YOU CANT TRADE ARE ONLEE VET RECEEEVER!!!!"
Geeezusss....stop it. Let's discuss something more realistic...like Henne for Aaron Rodgers.

I've also said more than once that my reluctance to trade Shorts is RIGHT NOW. Of course, the queen of hyperbole must exaggerate where she can, right diva?

Duh you would make the trade. But it hasn't happened so either the Jags want Cecil or the 49ers dont want to give Boone up for Cecil. Pretty much common sense.
Hey I want to trade Alualu for Watt, and Chris Prozinski for Earl Thomas but it aint gonna happen. Just like the Boone for Shorts trade aint gonna happen.

You think Houston would go for that? Seems like a good trade to me. I don't think I'd be willing to give up Prozinski for Thomas though. Chris is too valuable to this team.

I think Houston would also throw in a 2nd rounder
