Quote:I watched the replay 2 times this morning of the first 3 quarters and focused on the line. I did slow motion of each play over and over of the offense. No one is playing well!

I mean no one. Now I am no coach but we are in for a tough year.I am beginning to think Henne is not that bad its just he cannot scramble. When given time he can really spin it.

Maybe it will change but right now oh my................

exactly.....none of the OL are playing well....and on top of that none of the RB are really running well because the OL is not blocking well.

I just don't know who deserves more of the blame for the problem Fisch (ZBS) or the OL coaches.
He's a bust.  He's soft, and doesn't appear to be very strong.

When I repeatedly heard that he was a 'technician' that gave me pause.  That's code for no mean streak.  He just is not tough enough, it appears.  He's literally on his @ss every play just about.

He certainly has not been good. Hopefully he can turn it around in the regular season.

Not even close to being considered a bust yet.. Played 4 games before getting shifted back to his natural position only to end up on the IR for the remainder of the season.. Come down off the ledge and pop a Xanax..

I'm sure you will start multiple threads this season when you decide who to blame  :teehee:
Have you seen anything to indicate anything other than the fact that he appears to be completely overwhelmed?  Appears that Matthews that was at TAMU with him is clearly the better player.  He's been adequate/great from Day One.  Remember, Joeckel didn't exactly set the woods on fire BEFORE he got hurt.  In fact, I thought he stunk even then.

The regime is doing well but this is going to be a miss.

So are we blaming the coach at home with cancer or the one that took his place this summer and is working two rookies into the lineup?

Isn't our offensive line coach in the hospital?   I seem to recall we are using our assistant o-line coach, Luke Butkus.   Our top offensive line coach hasn't been here.

My opinion is that it takes an entire offensive line to play well.  There's a lot of helping, double teaming, shifting, passing off defenders on the fly, etc.  If and when they jell, they will all look better.   If the ball is snapped and the offensive lineman suddenly realizes he's got the wrong guy, or if he suddenly realizes he's not getting help, he will be off balance from the start, and he'll often get pancaked.   I think a lot of it might be just getting the guys in sync with one another and that takes time.
I hope next season we'll know who our starters are on the OL
There's no doubt, Joeckel will be out there all season pending injury. He's not a bust yet. He was drafted high to start. He needs real time reps to get his timing, adjust his footwork to the NFL level, and figure out how the NFL refs are going to call penalties against him. I think we'll know by game 6 who else will be on the starting o-line with Joeckel. Those ealy NFC and away matchups should give us an idea of who can handle the pass rush and open holes for Gerhart, et al.

He's been getting whipped all preseason I doubt he turns over a new leaf in the regular season

Exactly.  Mental mistakes are correctable.  Physical limitations are NOT.
Quote:I think having some concern is fair.

Dude got flat beat several times tonight, and he got absolutely blown up by Jonathon Bostic on a play last week.

Amazing how LTs can be judged on one or two plays out of like 50.

I don't think it's correct to say he's played poorly overall at LT in these 3 games

Amazing how you could make broad, sweeping implications about how I evaluate a player based on one post.
Couple points to add:

1. We've seen tons of seasons that included poor preseason play by the O-line only for them to step back up once the regular season hits

2. Zone blocking scheme helps the passing game more than the running game. Overall, not a huge fan of it.

Quote:I'm assuming you are talking about the zone blocking scheme.  IDK if that is a problem but you need talent no matter what scheme you run.  Lets look at this line:

LT: Joeckle: Very inexperienced at this position in the NFL. He has yet to play a full regular season game in the NFL at LT.

G:Beadles: A solid Guard.

C: ? They all stink.  When a 6th round pick is being considered to start the regular season there are issues.

RG:Linider. Another Rookie

RT: Guy Whimper.

I don't think any kind of coaching is going to help the interior of the line.
Not too much credibility when you can't get the name of the RT correct..  Whimper on the Steelers...    It is tough on the line when their coach is treating cancer rather than coaching them...  I wonder if that has had an effect??

I don't think so. I wasn't too impressed with the OL coach last year, either, other than Pasztor. And the run blocking was universally terrible then too.

Not a fan of the ZBS, but some teams seem to use it and it works for them.
