Quote:Well, amateur hour must have also fooled our GM then too, Laughing Beadles sucks.

If I'm running a team, I'm staying away from overhyped linemen that blocked for QB like Manning. As said, its much harder for an OL to block for a QB that holds on to the ball long (since he has to contain his assignment longer), so thats the first place I'd be looking when it comes to finding good OL. Granted the instances of Manning like QB are few and far between, so it wouldn't really be an issue much.
They also blocked for Moreno, who did pretty well.

I've watched every game... I'm not ready to throw Joeckel and Beadles out just yet.

I think as the season progresses we'll have a better idea of where our Oline guys are. But to say right now that Beadles sucks or Joeckel is a bust is premature.

All you roof jumpers need to simmer down. It seems like every year it is the same thing. Gotta complain about something or everything. Get over yourselves. This team has had a lot of holes filled in the two off seasons this GM has had. And you can't expect him to fix everything so quickly. We got WRs, we got our QB of the future... we have SOME long term fixtures on the line...

We got young RBs and young D players that could be core players for years to come.

And you guys wanna complain about Beadles being a waste or Luke causing concern. Shaddap!

Should we go get Incognito to fix the line?
Quote:Last year's draft was weak overall.  Kinda of hard to say anything about the number 2 selection.  Is he better than Fischer in KC?  That remains to be seen as well.  Fischer did play last year so I think it will pan out okay.  I think the Rams tackle selection is the only lineman bust I can think of in recent years.

Yes, Eric Fisher has been awful, completely awful last year (before his injury) and has been dominated in this preseason as well. It's still early, but both have failed to live up to their draft status. I'm not too concerned about LJ, he completely stone walled Robert Quinn in the St Louis game last year before the injury, I don't think he'll ever be a road grading LT, he's a finesse guy that should excel in pass protection (like Joe Thomas).

Not sure to what degree it makes their jobs tougher or not, but Moreno routinely only faced 6 man fronts because of Manning. They were talking about this the other day, when the prognosis for Moreno in Miami was being discussed.

I'm not bailing on Joeckel. I still hold out hope that he'll be good, and I'm definitely glad we didn' take Fisher. Lane Johnson seems to be the best of the bunch, though....and we had a chance to select him.

I guarantee Joeckel will play better than Lane Johnson when the Jaguars play the Eagles in Week One.

Hindsight is a beautiful thing.

Maybe Lane Johnson comes here and gets hurt too and ends up in the same kind of scenario?

If our GM had a crystal ball I'm sure it'd make it just as easy to speak in hindsight.

Someone might want to remember the above quote...

Not sure what makes you THAT confident in the above. Is it the LEO?

While I agree that Peyton Manning can make an OL look better than he really is, Beadles played well on the Broncos for two years before Manning arrived. As others have said, the OL needs to work together for a while in order to understand how their teammates carry out their assignments. Who blocks who? That's more important for the three interior linemen because they each have a teammate on both sides.

I'm more concerned with Joeckel, who has played poorly on basic 1 on 1 blocking this preseason.

Nice set up and delivery.

Joeckel is also returning from a fractured leg...I think there could still be some rust there.

Ahhh, thats right. +1 for you.

The Big 3 (Fisher, Joeckel, and Johnson) OT's drafted in the top 10 all struggled last year, Johnson does has the highest upside because he's immensely athletic, but they all struggled to some degree. Oddly, the best offensive linemen (so far) from the 2013 draft went 20th (Kyle Long) and 31st (Travis Frederick), and 65th (Larry Warford) overall, those three guys have been good, with Kyle Long being dominant.

This conversation still going on after LJ stonewalled Jared Allen?  Seriously?

Quote:This whole thread is stupid. Nobody can realistically expect a guy who played right tackle four weeks and left tackle 12 plays, then could not use his right foot for 2-3 months, to show us why he is a #2 overall draft pick during his first NFL preseason at left tackle. So why is anybody complaining about how bad he looks now and how bad he was at right tackle? You have to watch him play all season if you want to judge the pick - and do so in 2015, when he is not coming off a severe injury. I am only concerned about people saying he sucks and is a bust, a wasted pick, etc. based on 12 plays and a single training camp. The rust will wear off in time for the Colts game in Week 3.

Wow. Blast from the past.

Lane Johnson initially struggled, but really came on in the 2nd half of the season.

Isn't Allen 35 this year?
It was a bad week for the O-line in general.  Joeckel had a few ugly plays, but was solid most of his snaps.

Beadles got blown up by Fairley twice and whiffed on a zone run block once.  Other than that he was fine.  He doesn't look like he's worth his salary just yet, but he doesn't "suck" as some suggest.

some of you are easily amused.
