I'd prefer he starts but won't be upset if he sits. There really isnt a right or wrong answer unlike what some of you think. Some players (Manning) think young qbs are better off playing early and taking their lumps. Some think the opposite. I personally don't think it matters. A good qb will be good regardless of how he's developed.
I think he will be successful if he sits or if he starts right away so I'm good either way.

I think he could play right away as well because he's mentally strong and willing to learn from his mistakes instead of being afraid to make mistakes.
But I understand. The jaguars are no Super Bowl contenders this year. Have him sit and learn and observe and limit the chance of injury as well.

We have almost an entirely new offensive line and entirely new wide receivers. In that situation, I would prefer a veteran QB to start out. Then at least someone will know why a play broke down. If we also had a rookie QB out there, it could be mass confusion.
I am in the camp that says, let's get the offensive line and wide receivers straightened out and then put in Bortles. Because in the current situation, with all the new offensive linemen and wide receivers, I don't think he'll learn a whole lot by playing.

In a strictly literal sense... that's very true.

The 1994/ 1995 Cowboys were....
Deion Sanders.
Quote:You start him because he is the best QB on the roster. If he isn't, you don't. But you don't sit him just because.
You really don't get it at all, if all you think it's about is "just because."
Caldrac nailed it.
It has absolutely nothing to do with who you think is better.
He's simply not consistent as they'd like him to be yet. Only when he gets there, will it even become a talking point. But it hasn't even gotten to that point yet, and the plan is still for next year. Sorry if that disappoints you, but that's the situation.

Evidence suggests otherwise, but whatever, its not that important.

LOL... every single shred of evidence proves it's false.
You must be off your meds. You've been extra willfully ignorant lately... even for you.
So no one on that team had a ring, much less two rings, before Deion arrived. Aikman, Irvin, and Smith (since you didn't know... the "triplets")... all bums that couldn't win without Deion.
Just asinine... This is quickly escalating into one of your finest moments on the board.

They won their rings in 1992, 1993 seasons. Then in 1994, when Jimmy Johnson was gone and the Niners added Deion, what Dallas had at that point wasn't enough as they lost in the 1994 NFCC game to the Niners. The very next year, the Cowboys added Deion and ultimately went on to win the SB. Not sure what you aren't seeing.
Are you suggesting that had the Niners kept Deion that Dallas would still have won it all in 1995? lol, if anyone is being "
asinine", its you.

The college fanboy allegience to players in Florida seems to be strong on this board. I won't back down from that assertion.
I'm happy with Bortles since the draft however, despite wanting the Jags to draft Bridgewater. I still think Bridgewater will wind up the best QB from that draft. Bortles should be at least 2nd, though. He's impressed me with how he's handled himself since the draft as opposed to someone like Johnny Alcohol whose been the opposite, over that time.
I'd bet you can't find a single bad/ negative comment from me aimed Bortles way from May 10 onward. Go ahead - try to find one.

This is largely correct.
While Dallas did add other players like Kevin Williams and Ray Donaldson, the catalyst is largely viewed as Deion Sanders-if nothing else by taking him away from SF.
Adding Charles Haley in 1992 was also a catalyst addition to put them in the Super Bowl in 1992.

Just... wow. Fantasy football really skews the way the game is perceived by those obsessed with it, for sure.

This is pretty muck exactly what I have been saying.
I predict the 'Resistance' will fall after week 3 of the preseason. He'll start this season. And at his rate by week 1.

I have moved from "leave him on the bench" to neutral. Trending towards starting him but haven't got there yet.
One man's wishy-washiness is another man's open mindedness. I will say I am open-minded.
Gus had some perspective on Bortles when asked at the Sat. presser.
(paraphrased) He's right where we expected. His poise was great. He made good decisions but had 2 mental errors. (he alluded to a check at the L.O.S.)
