Quote:I like the one guy we added in this draft - Colvin. I think once healthy he might be the best player in our secondary, already.
I'm not a Cyprien guy. I think he is massively overrated by this fan base.
Really? I mean he had a bad start to his rookie year, but really started to get it and learn from his mistakes. I mean a rookie that wasnt taken in the first round, and plays Strong Safety on a team that was last place yet again with pass rush, and had a rookie CB D. Gratz (mentioned in this thread) and Blackmon & Ball CBs. Lets not even start with the how Evans at FS debate. Yet he was able to get these stats:
104 tackles (2nd on the team) , 1 sack, 6 PDEF, 1 int for 27 yards and 2 forced fumbles and missing a game during the season.
I'm not saying he's the best SS in the NFL, but for a rookie he shows a lot of promise & def. is the best DB right now. The fan base does have a tendency to hype up our players but even other teams fans and media have mentioned how impressive Cyprien's play became at the end of the season. He's a player to watch this year.
Quote:Whether Gratz develops into a pro bowl corner or not remains to be seen. One thing is for certain though - Gratz is exceptionally strong for a corner. You need players like him to play against some of the physical receivers in the NFL, like Andre Johnson. He has a role regardless of whether he turns into a stud or not. Ideally, you want him covering the possession receivers and hopefully we'll eventually draft someone who can blanket the NFL's top playmakers.
Its not what Sherman does and he was coached under Gus Bradley, maybe Gratz is Gus's sherman 2.0 in the making??? but i doubt it.
When did it start making sense to write off a mid round rookie who had a decent season after his first year? Also to factor in: pass rush was awful.
Most positions need three seasons to really see what you've got. If that's how gratz played as a rookie and he keeps up the progression over two years, then he will definitely be a good starting cb for us.
I also don't want to hear the "what you saw in his rookie year is what you get." That's almost never the case.

You know the act.
Quote:Average isn't good enough. A defense is only as strong as your weakest link.
That's very poor logic, the Panthers were very good defensively last year. You gonna tell me that all of their 11 starters were above average?

I'm talking about actually winning something of substance....the Panthers won nothing.

Tony McDaniel and K.J. Wright?

The NFC South
The truth is, despite one opinion, it's pretty much impossible with the league's salary cap to have a lineup without weak spots somewhere. If you can't see this, you're dreaming.

I guess that ends that debate

Yep, I'm sure you can go through every SB winner for the past 20 years or so and find at least 1 starter that is avg to below avg.

I like Cyprien. For a rookie SS he played well and def. a guy to watch this year. I also like the Colvin pick...they are building a nice secondary. Of course as mentioned earlier, that pass rush is important and they added some nice pieces this year. I'm new around here but really like how the team is coming along. The head coach is awesome.
Quote:I thought Gratz played well last year when he was in..
He did. Just ignore this crap.
Personally I think that with a stronger pass rush Gratz will be more than average...he is a big physical corner with some ball skills...you put some of the best CBs in the league on our D and they look average because we have no pass rush and had rookie safties playing behind them...that makes a difference...no matter if you want to see it or not.
I think Gratz compares to Sherman well actually...in size, speed, athleticism, ect...put Sherman on our D and he looks average at best...but on that fearsome D in Seattle he is getting a huge extension.
Someone saying a 3rd round corner with no pass rush aint good? Psh. Dude held his own.
Gratz will be fine. I've been absent for a while, but if this is somehow based off of TC, I'm just gonna' laugh it off. The kid showed some serious flashes in about 5 games last season. He was a starting rookie with little to zero help from the pass rush. He struggled, he got hurt -but he also made some nice plays and showed a natural ability to read a QB.
I'm looking forward to seeing him progress in his second year. If there is actually a reason to be concerned - I haven't seen it. Call me if he sucks in September.
I thought Gratz was a bright spot last year until the injury bug came. I think Robinson is an exceptional talent and I wouldn't be surprised if guys were a little lax at camp. You don't want to beat up and kill your rookie's confidence before a season. Give him a chance. I heard Gus say he liked what he saw out of "Gratzy".
TMD has a tendency to make a statement and then form an opinion during the defense of that statement.
6 pages because a DB was beaten on a play in training camp?
Well done everyone.

2nd round rookie beats 3rd round second year player.
As if that is cause for concern.
Some like livin' the glass half empty life.
