1 on 1 3 yards out spread out wide in a jump ball in the endzone with the DB he was pretty uncoverable towards the end of last year

The other 97 yards Meh

he was good for perhaps one 20 yard play a.game

Still hope he comes out swinging
Quote:I'm sure he is happy.

This will be the first time in about 4 years that he won't be forced to compensate for a turnstile at RT or have a completely inept QB throwing the ball.

I could see this easily being his best season baring injury.

I agree with this.
Quote:haha, so true! Laughing

Also its always great on some of the few times he actually advances to the open field and instead of trucking over the 50 lbs lighter DB ahead of him, Marcedes instead tries to finesse his way around the DB...thats always good times...
I don't think that was the case last year. I recall him running over and through defenders last year.
The blocking giraffe.  I hope he backs up what he's saying though.  Is his contract almost up or something?

Quote:Am i missing something?  Where does he get off being all confident and kinda boasting on his skills.  He is a good blocker but not at all a great receiver.

Typo:  Marcedes Lewis.

IDK it comes off as arrogant.

WoW this is shocking (or is it)  The NFL.com's recent preseason rankings of the best TEs doesnt even mention Lewis... (so why does he make so much again?  Why wasnt there a restructure of his contract last year?

--------------------------------------------

The below link from SBNation didnt mention him, or the rest of our TEs I wonder why?

-----------------------------

The fact is on Offense TE is one of our weakest roles along with RG and Center.

--------------------------

side note on first page at the bottom of blog...

Honorable mention of Kyle Brady being a great blocking TE

So straighten me out here.

I'm supposed to be upset because he's confident?
Yes. Because if you're not upset, then you're dum.

Or stoopid, I can never remember which.

Whatever, I'm going to get a sammich.

Oh, OK.

I don't want to be positive at the wrong time.

I know this is crazy, but I think Lewis had a good second half of the season.

I'm probably just dum or stoopid.

Definitely. Everyone knows that true fans hope their team's players are timid and play poorly. How else are we supposed to get the top pick in the draft next year?

So.... I can get that sammich now or not?
Hmm didn't see M. Lewis on this list either.. why is he getting paid so much again?

I didn't even mention guys like Kellen Winslow, Zach Miller, and Ed Dickson. The tight end position is deeper than it has ever been. If your favorite team doesn't have a difference-maker, they are playing at a disadvantage.  By Gregg Rosenthal NFL.com

Let's face it Lewis is like many of the Jaguars in the last decade way over rated by us but not the rest of the league.

Show me a single person that is way overrating him.
Quote:Hey, he's going into the season with some swag. Can't complain about that.

Exactly.  There's nothing wrong with that.  And he did qualify the "nobody can block me" statement by saying this is the case if he's doing everything to the best of his ability.
He should have said he believes no one needs to cover him.

He makes Kyle Brady look like Larry Fitzgerald.

Same reason MJD was being paid too much his last few years, same reason Paul Posluszny gets paid too much.

Because he works in the NFL and was in the right place at the right time.

Luckily for him the team doesn't have anyone anywhere near good enough to replace him or the cap issues to worry.

Yeah, don't let a little something like facts get in the way of making a stupid statement like that.

Marcedes has more receiving yards, the same number of touchdowns, and almost 2 more yards per catch average in 8 years vs. 13 for Brady.  Lewis is averaging about 450 yards per season receiving.  Brady averaged 271.  Numbers really support your comment.

It was more a humorous exaggeration, also known in literary terms as hyperbole. Of course my point still stands that in an era when passing and the tight end have become much more prevalent Marcedes performs like a bottom of the roster player in the passing game.

The best kind of humor has at least some grounding in fact.

And you don't think a good portion of why that might be the case is because the team relied so heavily on the running game, forcing him to be more of a blocker than a receiver?  This is a guy who came into the league as one of the top pass catching TEs in the country.  It's not like he was incapable of making plays when he entered the NFL.  What the team did as far as utilizing him had as much to do with his lack of production as anything else.  He didn't help things with the drops he's had over the years, but hopefully with a renewed focus this year, and a few less distractions, he'll overcome that this season.  I see nothing wrong with him showing confidence.

I like it. I hope Our line can at least play decent. Lewis will get more chances. At 6'6(looks 6'7) and 220+ lbs no one should be able to cover him.

Fisch was finding ways to get him the ball last year.  That certainly helped.  He should be an integral part of the passing game this year as long as the line plays up to expectations and he's not tasked with having to help them out.
