Quote:Well. not really. Alualu has started every game in his career and plays through injury.
Lol and now rides the bench.

Did Marcedes get replaced IMMEDIATELY once the offseason started?
The bottom line is Lewis should just shut his mouth and prove it on the field.  It's not offensive what he said but  but it's laughable.  As someone else said, Walk before you talk.  We all hope that he breaks out and has a 1,000 yard season but you got to be reasonable.

It's so damn easy! :woot:

Pretty much this. ^^^

So what?  He gets asked a question and says 'No comment'?
Do you think he sits back and watches his Pepsi commercials from his rookie year, and thinks I am the best TE in the NFL?

Does anyone have a highlight film of all the droped passes he's missed over the years?

or a stat count?  I mean maybe we are judging him a bit harshly the Qbs have been really bad during his tenure.

The defense must fear your abilities before they cover you.

Hey Gus!!!    Marcedes will be wide open all year!!!!

How about "We're all just looking to get better every day, every practice, every game, every play."

Ah yes.

The PC response.

Of course.

Of course.
At least he wouldn't come across as completely out of touch with his own abilities.

I'm not angry at him or anything, but I think given his attitude it's unsurprising that he's failed to show significant improvement over his career.

When you already believe you're as good as it gets why bother trying to get better?

Not just the QBs throwing to him.   It's also the bad offensive lines we have had, which kept him blocking instead of going out for passes.

I don't think he's a top 10 TE, but on the other hand, some of us definitely judge him too harshly.

It seems like we are always in need of a whipping boy around here.

You love to exaggerate. You're so good at it. And that's my main point about the over-the-top 'detractors' in this thread. I don't see a single person in this thread saying that Lewis is the greatest thing since sliced bread. But that's what anyone who makes any kind of positive comment is accused of. Yet you clowns have to blow things out of proportion make some kind of 'point'.

What are you talking about?

All I said is he's not as good as his comment suggests he thinks he is.

Sure I started off in the thread with some humor about his abilities, but the real problem here seems to be the intense defensiveness on display by those that seem to think Marcedes should be above reproach.

Can you show me one display of " intense defensiveness"?

Go back through the thread and look for all of the ad hominem responses I've gathered, particularly from the moderators.

When someone starts trying to argue against the person in the discussion rather than the discussion points on their own that's a sign of defensiveness.
Folks here and elsewhere frequently use the phrase "What have you done for me lately?" when describing the NFL and the ebb and flow of the talent on various teams.

Well....  Lewis has been quite good lately and seems well on his way back toward the form he showed in his lone ProBowl season.

His numbers from the bye-week on last season project to 50 catches for 720 yds and 8 TDs on a season.   That doesn't match the salary Smith prematurely gave him, but it's good contribution to the offense. I think the time to bash the dude was two years ago and has long since passed.

Apparently it's just too tempting for some to continue the same old song and dance.

If Marcedes stays healthy all season, I fully anticipate 50-60 catches for around 800 yds and 7 TDs or so. That's above average production for a TE. I'd be happy to see it and see no reason why it can't happen.

Will he drop a few seemingly easy catches?  Absolutely.  He's still Marcedes Lewis, but he displayed a major uptick in that category over his final 7 games last season - and that's encouraging.

I think it's dangerous to extrapolate from such a small sample size, but I could see his productivity increasing some once Bortles is ready to be a franchise guy just by virtue of having a better QB keeping the offense on the field longer.

Of course there are two major caveats, he has to actually stay healthy, and he's not getting younger, and by the time Bortles is ready to shine the Jaguars may have found a better TE anyway.
