Quote:You guys realize this isn't Fantasy Football and being a TE is a lot more than just catching TD passes. I expect Lewis to get more looks this year as long as our O line holds up.
If you're directing that at the OP?  Then no.
Quote:what the heck is a Jensen?

They made one heck of a car speaker back in the 80's.  Everyone wanted a Jensen Triax.  Then they got greedy and tried out the Quadraxial speakers. Very disappointing.

Either that, or Marcel Jensen, TE, Jacksonville Jaguars.

Quote:Just to expand on the point you're making -- Gus would quickly lose credibility with the locker room if that happened. His whole culture is based on competition.

Exactly.

Quote:I guess what I am trying to say is I highly doubt that Doss and a few other WRs are going to out perform Ace Sanders.  I expect Cecil will, and the rookies Robinson & Lee are safe.  I think Brown will give him a run for his money though.

I'm pretty sure that's what just about everyone else here is saying, but you felt compelled to continue debating this as if that wasn't the case.  But, the point you keep missing is that there is always the possibility that he could be outperformed during training camp and the preseason, and if that happened, there's no guarantee he'd have a roster spot.

As unlikely as that may be, it's still within the realm of possibility.

Quote:If you're directing that at the OP?  Then no.
Directed at anyone who thinks Marcedes should be cut.
He'll make the team. Not a player at the TE position has what it takes to oust him.

This is his deciding year though, in my opinion.

The only guy behind Lewis is Clay Harbour (sp?).  Lewis isn't going anywhere.  He's the best blocking TE in the league and he started to come on in the passing game as the season progressed last year.

Agreed
I don't think Lewis even believes he's the 2nd best TE in the league.

Without making a new thread, would anybody care to discuss if Brown will jump Sanders this year?  They both make my final roster.

If they both make the roster I see Sanders getting many more snaps. He has a more defined role, and can punt return. Brown will have a hard time being active in that case.

In terms of who makes the roster, I think an argument can be made for Brown over Sanders -- especially if Doss wrestles away punt return duties from Sanders. Not really sure which way I lean on all that right now though, I just don't know enough about Doss to hazard any guesses.

Agreed.  Brown is going to have a difficult time finding the field in that scenario.

Careful.  You're posing a scenario where Sanders would actually be on a bubble, and there are some folks here who are awfully sensitive about the mere suggestion.

Some folks here are awfully sensitive about any suggestions.  :whistling:

Anyway, excluding those who went on draft day rants after his selection, I think we are all rooting for Ace. He is a fun player to watch. But, if he were to get cut, that would mean a guy who started games for the team last year has 4-5 guys more talented than him making it this year.

That equates to having more talent at the position and on the team than last year. When talented young (and cheap) players start getting cut, your front office is doing something right.
Salary is not an issue. If it were they would just restructure.

Am I the only one who is excited to see what UDFA's Hurns and Copeland can do? I swear they are poised to throw a monkey wrench in this whole thing.

I'd doubt even his parents would think that. Ninja

Maybe if he were in Canada...

As much as I hope we find a replacement for Lewis, I can't help but wonder: he was drafted in the first round to replace Kyle Brady as a better receiving threat. Turn the clock forward the better part of a decade later, and when you look over his body of work, it's striking how similarly his career arc has gone to Brady's. Lewis is decent enough, if horribly overpaid, but I do hope a better receiver is found because, well, look at the tight ends in Seattle. Those Seahawks love them some tight ends, especially ones who can catch and make plays down the field.

it's certainly possible but they have an even tougher hill to climb and would essentially have to play balls out in preseason. I remember last year I really liked Kevin Elliot but he didnt make it .

I doubt they make that big of a splash.  Best case scenario for one of these guys is probably the practice squad.

According to Bleacher Report (March 2014) He is only ranked #29 among top 50 TEs in the NFL

The Jaguars like what Lewis brings to the table as a run-blocker. He is physical and strong enough to match up with most of the players who line up across from him. As with most taller players, he has some issues staying low and getting under the defenders' pad level.
Bleacher Report.  Funny stuff.

Keep digging.  It won't matter when 89 is still lining up as a starter on opening day.
