Quote:Blocked his way to that rich contract? I guess I missed when he held a gun to Gene Smith's head.
He had many good seasons as a TE blocker and only one as a endzone catcher. That never warrants top 3 TE money.

Quote:I gotta disagree with ya on that last sentence. Salary for every player needs to be at their performance level. Obviously this can't be the case for everyone but its something that needs to be strived for. Lewis is getting top 3 money so if he isn't putting out top 3 numbers then he needs to go. If we have to overpay a player, Lets do it for a top 5 Free agent at his position.
Value is what keeps teams in the hunt year after year. Lewis represents the worst value/player situation we got going on at the moment. I hope that changes.

Quote:Del Rio and company took the best receiving tight end in the draft and made him Mark Bruener. He became the player they wanted him to be. Blame Del Rio not Lewis.Jags did the same with Kyle Brady. He got to where he couldn't hold onto a football, although he was as good a blocker as most of our O-Lineman.

Does anyone have video of Jensen compared to Lewis?

Wow he's ranked 22nd out of all TEs in the league according to the link above....
yet paid 2nd highest in the NFL...
Quote:Fresno state thought enough of him to regularly split him wide, even though watching him, he didn't appear overly fast in what I saw.
Quote:So, if he's outperformed, and clearly isn't the best option, they'll stick with him? See, I don't think so. If one of the other guys on the roster he's competing with do indeed outperform him to the point where it's clear for anyone watching, he is in jeopardy.
Again, I'm not saying he's going anywhere, but I'm not naive enough to think that if there is indeed a better player they can keep, that they're going to stick with him. There is a lot of competition this year at the WR spot.

Quote:Fantasy rankings, well that settles it, cut him immediately.:woot: Funny right there... but seriously do you have him as the 2nd best TE in the NFL? How about in the top 5?
Quote:I guess what I am trying to say is I highly doubt that Doss and a few other WRs are going to out perform Ace Sanders. I expect Cecil will, and the rookies Robinson & Lee are safe. I think Brown will give him a run for his money though.

Quote:I dont know Dave Caldwell was able to trade away Blaine Gabbert, so anything is possible ...
Quote:I think everyone here agrees that he is overpaid. But you don't just cut starting level talent in the prime of their career when you have no cap issues and no viable replacement. TE is one of the thinnest positions on the team. We have Lewis, Harbor... and some UDFA's.
There is a time and a place for discussing this and the clock starts ticking on that when the 2014 season ends IMO. Although, I ultimately expect Lewis to stick around for two more seasons myself.
Quote:Agree with the majority of this post. Disagree with the bolded. His replacement will be found in this year's upcoming draft.
