Quote:He'll definitely have to earn his reps, but as he gets conditioned, I'm pretty confident he'll be able to play his way back on to the field.

It's really sad that we have to sit here and speculate about stuff like this.  For such a tremendous talent to squander this the way he has because of addiction issues is truly a shame.  It's amazing how the life of co-dependency can completely derail even the best among us.  Hopefully he can be one of those who overcomes this and becomes an example of the power of recovery.
Absolutely.

I've heard from people who have met him and have said he seems like a decent enough guy when sober.  That relationship he forged with that sick little girl in Oklahoma lends credence to that.  We know that when he's on his game, he can be close to unstoppable on the field.  It's just that booze demon that is holding him back and stunting the team's progress.
Quote:Yeah, but I think most of what you see from Blackmon on the field is God given, and not something that he'll lose as a result of this hiatus.
If he's working hard even in the midst of his suspension...if he's running wind sprints, running routes, lifting weights, etc., then it may not be so bad.  If he allows himself to get too far out of shape, it could get ugly.
Quote:Well...the Mike Williams experience gives me concern.  He may have been a bust due to any number of factors, but the year off after being declared ineligible could not have helped much.

Blackmon coming back doesn't necessarily mean getting the Blackmon we saw vs. Denver and Houston, even with reps and coaching.

I dunno...

How much did Jimmy Smith play his first 3-4 years in the league? He missed some full seasons in there, no?? Theres some examples of players that missed a lot of time and still retained their high level of play (or got it back in short order) That didn't stop him from becoming great eventually.
As I and most anticipates, B14CKMON will remain a Jaguar whether he again suits up or Not... We really don't know of his prescent circumstance other than being suspended so we Must give him the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. And his two suspensions is irrevilent...

I sincerely hopes that he again will occupy an roster spot in a Jaguar uniform... We All lnow that he has the talent needed to play Lights Out...

NH3...
Quote:I don't see the Jaguars trading Blackmon.  He either sinks or swims here.  If they release him, it's because he's never going to find his way back into the league.  If they sit on him, it costs them nothing.  It's not eating cap.  It's not taking up a roster spot.

The hope here is that Blackmon can get back on track with his life, and if that does indeed happen, the Jaguars will benefit by having him on the field.  If he can make that return, I seriously doubt the team would trade him unless they got some ridiculous offer.

I have hope that Blackmon finally realizes everything he has to lose, and then I remember Ricky Williams popeye spinach. We finally seem to have hit on a couple wide receivers after such a long drafting, and free agency drought. Jerry Porter, Matt Jones, Reggie Williams ... etc, Matt Millen was better at picking wide receivers than we have been. We have what could be a potent offense for a change, or I should say seemingly potent offense.

Good point.

Smith missed a lot of time his first 3 years.  One year he had a broken leg, then next year he had the appendectomy.  He was cut by Dallas due to the disagreement with Jerry Jones over that appendectomy.  He played for the Jaguars in 1995, but didn't become Jimmy until 1996.

I dunno if it took all of 1995 and practicing under TC to knock the rust off or not.

But there are instances where guys have been away from the game and their game suffered because of it. I just hope if Blackmon gets it together, rust isn't much of an issue.
The "14" era Blackmon hasn't had much luck....

when/ if he comes back, he should come back fresh with his "81" from college.

EXACTLY...

If B14CKMON maintains his NFL conditioning status and When he's reinstated and If he rekindles his play making abilities, It'll be worth the wait to add him to the WR rankings...

Imagine the Possibilities...

Imagine That...

NH3...
Of course we're not going to release him. We're going to trade him!

No way, the 14 looks slick and it's unique to Justin.

What are the odds of that though?  I'm not optimistic that he's working on his conditioning if the reports that he's not really putting an effort into getting the other issues addressed are true.

Well, in the end, that'll be up to Justin...

The only reason he took 14 to begin with was because 81, his college number was unavailable at the time...

Difficult to say really.

I can easily see what you typed here coming to fruition, where he's saying to himself that he's not going to be reinstated any time soon so why bother working on my craft.

On the other, somehow I can possibly see him "compartmentalizing" these issues, where he can see football as important on the one hand, and be in complete denial about his substance dependence issues on the other.

From our detached perspective, we can see in this instance the two are intertwined, such that if he ever hopes to play football, he will have to address his issues with chemical dependence.

But an addicted individual doesn't process things the same way.

Blackmon has two speeds, ballin [BLEEP] receiver and plastered drunk.
He is too good of a talent on the field to just release him.  I hope he cleans his act up because he could become a Hall of Fame receiver.  Yes i believe he is that good. Most Good receivers never have a 200 yard game in their entire career.  He almost had 2 in 20 games.

Yup. 81ackmon > b14ckmon
I still have a feeling Blackmon won't apply for reinstatement.
I agree with the mad dog .only a lifetime ban by the nfl

He has to complete certain terms before he can even apply. By the looks of things he hasn't even taken the first step yet.
Quote:If true that suggests to me the current Jags brass is smart.

No reason that they should be releasing Blackmon, at all at that point.

The only and I mean only situation that Blackmon should be released by the Jags is if he gets suspended by the NFL for life.
Agreed 100%.

I have been doing that quite often lately, and it's freaking me out. :woot:
