I was very impressed with Bortles today.

I will need to see him string several of these types of games together to really start believing in him again, and today was a good start.

But...but... I thought he was trash???

One of the things that stuck out with Bortles to me was his lack of turnovers/potential turnovers.

Sure he had that fumble slip, but generally he has a couple balls a game that could be intercepted and just get dropped. He didn't have those today.

Also his body language was significantly better, sure he was winning and on fire, but the couple bad throws/drives we didn't see him acting like Cam

Exactly. Nobody here seems to notice that Cam Newton's throwing mechanics are just as bad as Bortles'. Panthers fans know about this, but they aren't calling for his head even during their losing seasons with him.
His mechanics and accuracy will continue to concern me until he can reliably hit receivers in their stride. As long as our receivers have to turn their body, go back for the ball, or dive/jump to make the catch on almost every throw, I will not believe he is anything other than serviceable. A few jump balls and off-stride throws are fine, every QB has them, but he needs to be able to hit the easy routes and give the receivers a chance to make YAC.

Quote:He broke every franchise passing record at a very young age. ..he most likely didnt train as hard in the off season. . This season is either a wake up call or hes done.
Dave absolutely needs to bring some competition in
No doubt they need to bring in someone they think can replace him, or make Bortles better to keep his job.

BAHAHAHAHA

He was this year, you have to admit that.  He still wasn't all that good last year, just got a lot of garbage time stats.
IIRC, the "garbage time" thing was dispelled in another thread a while back.... But you're entitled to your opinion...

You know, so much has been made of how bad Bortles has been this year, which he has, but has anyone looked at Cam's stats? I did today and was shocked! He has been god awful! To a magnitude even Bortles hasn't matched. Why isn't Cam getting thrashed the way Bortles is?

For one he did lead his team to a 15-1 record and all the way to the Super Bowl, although he did get exposed by a really good defense, but he still had an incredible season.

He also got voted MVP last season, which just confirms he had a great year.

He was also offensive rookie of the year, and has been voted to 3 Pro Bowls, although going to the Pro Bowl doesn't mean as much as it used to with all the QBs that get voted in and don't attend.

Plus, the fans do seem to love him in Carolina.

He also won a national Championship in college, not that it matters much in the NFL, but he still won it as a college QB.

You are correct though, Newton has been pretty bad this year, but maybe possible bashers are just figuring it's just a bad year and will wait to see what happens next year.

Also, people just like to bash Jacksonville more then most other NFL cities, plus Bortles rightfully deserves his criticizing this year, he's been awful.

Those are a few reasons why Cam isn't getting bashed like Bortles.

BB5's year last year was better than Cammie's, the Panthers just had better coaching and a rocking defense.

Because Cam is an actual starting QB having a down year, Blake is just legitimately bad.
You can't quarterback a team when you're this inaccurate. I don't see him as a starting qb beyond next year

Ummm no it wasn't.

His team and coaching were better, as was his performance.

Maybe he was better at crying and whining like a 2 year old, Blake definitely step his game up in that department this year though.
Quote:Three - Jedd Fisch, Greg Olson, and Nathaniel Hackett. Remember Hackett is using the same playbook Olson did.
Lol...Is he really using the same play book?

Jesus...

If that's true...Olsen really sucks at play calling....

What? No he didn't. We had a bad record but there was a lot of games last year we were right in the thick of things til the end. Sure, we got blown out by Houston to end the year and a couple others, but I wouldn't say those games he did a ton. When the game ended with a score where the Jaguars were either winning or losing by 7 or less, he had 2800 yards, 22 TD's, and 8 INT's.

He wasn't as amazing as his numbers said, but he was definitely a middle of the pack solid QB last year. Something we could have definitely won some games with this year with the defense even with the non-factor of any run game.

As bad a QB1 as Blake is right now, he's still slightly better than Superman Cam is as a QB (not an athlete).  Plus, I'll take Blake's maturity every time.

Bring in veteran competition and competent coaching and let's see what we have.
