Quote:I dont follow them too closely but do they measure doing negative things at the most inopportune time and their impact on the overall game?
Absolutely.
I would not be surprised in the least if Tony Khan moves the team when he takes official control from his father. The fan base is hostile toward him and there are a bunch of other cities that he knows would LOVE to have an NFL team. He has zero connections to Jacksonville and truthfully, if he moved the team to London or something, the value of the franchise would essentially double.

That is why I don't get all the hostility toward Tony. Is he the best analytics guru in the world? Probably not. But when the fan base mocks and derides his decision making, we shouldn't be surprised in the least that the toes we step on today will be connected to the [BLEEP] we have to kiss tomorrow. Tony is going to move this team, and I don't blame him. If I owned an NFL team in a town where I knew people didn't want me, I would move too.

Baseball seems easier to calculate because of how binary the sport seems and how many active players are moving at once(which is not a lot compared to football).

Football is just so different, so many different possible outcomes because there are 22 players on the field at once moving at full speed.

I don'tnt get the sense people dont like him. I think people just get annoyed reading analytics when the team is stinking up the joint.

Tony can do whatever he wants with the team when he takes over, but nobody should live their life in fear, lol.
Tony looks like a cosmopolitan and lemon drop martini drinker. That is all I really need to know.

Absolutely true.

I would conservatively estimate it could be 6-8 years before any of Tony's analytics are being heavily referenced in making any critical personnel or game-planning decisions.

It's still very new in the NFL and won't be trusted by scouts or coaches for some time.
Quote:first of all, you don't know that.

second of all, more and more people are saying that Tony is actually a big piece of the decision-making puzzle. That was confirmed today by Dave.

What did Dave say? I know he'll be sitting in on the HC interviews but what decisions does he actually make football wise?

And dozens of folks on this forum think Jalen Ramsey prefers boys.   What's your point?

Does it prevent him from doing his job if he sips girly drinks on his off-time?

Does Ramsey play Hopkins differently if he's straight or homosexual?
This is not a knock against Tony, but I think it is human nature to be annoyed by someone in a position they haven't exactly earned through hard work.

I cannot argue with that.
Quote:To which of those would you liken Tony Khan?

Good point.

I just really am not on board with the money ball analysts who either have not played the game or simply want to remove the human element when it comes to talent evaluation.

I hear you.

I love old-school smash-mouth football and I despise many of the changes that I've witnessed  in the league over the years.

I just think that analytics will eventually have a role to play whether we like it or not and I'd prefer my team to be on the forefront of it rather than playing catch-up.

^^^^this

He's is on Twitter talking about YAC after pass attempts on 3rd downs in the 3rd Quarter of games in October meanwhile the titanic is sinking.

No one gives a rats behind about that crap when your 12 wins into a 4 year rebuild.

How would anyone know this? Just because he works for his billionaire father doesn't mean his father didn't make him earn his way into the position he holds now, expecting him to work hard the whole time.

Working in the bumper factory doesn't qualify Tony to have even an ounce of say in anything football related. You act like Tony was raised with the Manning brothers or something.
So what is the Jaguar's record with Tony using all this analytical analysis to analyze every possibly scenario on 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th down?

Also, when did all this analytical analyzing tell him that is was time to fire Gus and bring in a new HC?

Does anyone know the answer to either of those questions?

If Tony likes to do analytics in his free time, cool, but until we start winning, he can keep it to himself.

You act like you know what he does is useless while admitting you know little about analytics. or their applicability to football. Also, you apparently know nothing about his background.

How many teams are using analytics in football?

Edit: Using them to make actual decisions.
Analytics are going to become more and more prevalent. Stay ahead of the curve. Learn from the idiots that tried to stay in the dark ages in baseball. They are all unemployed now.
