All we need is a Good O-line-(Dave get a center and a guard Please!!!!!!!!!). The Zone blocking scheme will help Gerhart IMO. He is a 1 cut downhill back. It obvious he runs to High. Tape does not lie. We all see that. He has to get his pad level down once he clears the line of scrimmage. Coaches will work with him on that I'm sure. In Stanford they ran a power run game with a lot of big sets, so he is used to being a workhorse. A. Luck benefitted from him being a huge run threat. I see a lot of Play Action and deep throws in our offense next yr.
lets not get crazy. no shocking is going to take place. lets keep in mind that the running game is becoming less and less and that compiled with the running back by committee approach is certainly going to take away from his overall effect. i think we could see gerhart do well on the goal line. in that respect i think gerhart is a really good addition.

I actually didn't think McClendon was that bad last year after Brewster got hurt.
Still would not shock me to see them add a veteran on a one or two year deal.
There should be a lot of good guards and centers that land right in our wheelhouse in the 4th round.

Perhaps you don't like #1 above but it's true. Name me a white RB that was productive that carried the load for 3+ years in a row. Once you name that RB, let me know if you would be satisfied with Gerhart producing those numbers.

I don't think he'll "shock" people, but I don't see him being "great" either. I expect him to be a somewhat consistent "3 yards and a cloud of dust" type back with an occasional breakaway every other week or so. I hope they get Robinson more involved this year out of the backfield. And don't forget, Caldwell has 11 picks at his disposal. I think he'll use one pick on a RB that he likes at some point in this draft. If a guy like Tre Mason or Lache Seastrunk is on the board in RD4. He'll probably pull the trigger on one of them.

Adrian Peterson and MJD called, They said you're wrong. All a running back needs is an O line that can get to the second level. If they have that and play the run game effectively they'll never be in a position to abandon the run game.

I think you just proved my point. The below link includes the top 250 RBs in NFL history. Additionally, I stated effectiveness for a consecutive 3 year period. The players you cited covered a 45 year period in the NFL ? Like I said.... against the odds. Thanks !!

I'm kinda sold on Gerhart but I'm yet to complete the transition. I know of his status in and coming out of college but there's an side of me that errs to caution. Replacing MJD as a every down back has to be proven. Receiving 1000+ yards has to be proven. Protecting the QB has to be proven, etc, etc... I have the faith but to say that he'll accomplish these feats is premature at best. I'm encouraged of the Todman/Gerhart duo but I'd like to see Robinson have an viable roll in the running game as well...
