Quote:His hands and ability to catch the ball out of the backfield are one of his greatest assets.  Knowing what we know of Fisch - I imagine Gerhart will easily have opportunity to catch for 300+ yards if he's on the field for 65% of the offensive snaps.

Quote:He's averages 150 yards a season in limited time behind AP. I don't think twice that would be difficult given a fulltime role.
No knock on his skill. I just think Todman/D. Rob/Draft pick will get more chances to catch the ball then he will. Even if hes Starting I think our backfield will be ran by atleast 3 guys. Kinda like what the saints had with Thomas,Sproles & Ingram or the panthers with williams, Stewart & Tolbert.

You guys have to stop comparing players based on race. Just because two skilled players are both white does not mean that they have the same skill or talent.  Focus on the skills and stats not the color of the skin that will likely tell you how well he will do. Peyton Hillis ran an amazing 40 time for is weight and size at the combine, it was clear that even though he played fullback in college blocking for darren mcfadden he would be given an opportunity to run the ball simply because his combine numbers.  Toby gerhart has always played the tailback position and has great running back skill. He also had 4 years to learn from Adrian Peterson having been a big AP fan I watch Toby become an amazing running asset. The Jags got a great bargain if he can stay healthy.  He will be a late fantasy pick for me (because i know everyone else at my job will overlook him because he is white) and he will help me win my office pool again this year if he can stay healthy. So Kudo's to the Jag organization for having smart and talented scouts, I suspect things are going to change this year for the better.

Let me give you perspective as a Viking fan who also watched Stanford when Toby was there.

Gerhart is going to hit 1500 rushing yards this season. I would not be surprised if he breaks 2000 all purpose yards.

He is going to open alot of eyes. He is a complete back which is why he was in there on 3rd downs instead of Peterson, something you guys probably did not know.

Gerhart his like a train. He punishes tacklers. He has outstanding vision and good feet.

He runs high you say? Defenders do not want to hit him high because they fear him. They go for his legs.

He moves piles. Hes a helluva alot faster than people think too. Oh I know hes white, he cant be quick at all. Hes 230+ pounds that runs 4.5s and surprises people on the 2nd level when they try to close on him.

There is alot of Viking fans that preferred that we traded Peterson instead for some value and started Gerhart.

Vikings offensive line is not as good as you think also. The right side is the only good run blocking side.

You guys got one of the best backs in the NFL and nobody knows it. Should be able to snag him in fatnasy drafts in 3rd or 4th round.

Anyone bad mouthing him or questioning his ability either knows nothing about him or has no clue what they are talking about.

Oh and one last thing. Gerhart was stuck behind Peterson for 4 years. It has nothing to do with his ability to play. If he was black, we would not be having this conversation at all.

Touche' gaj, touche'. Very informative post. Nobody really knows what he can or is going to do until the year starts. But, some seem to overlook the fact that he played his "ENTIRE CONTRACT" under AP. What did you expect the Vikings brass to do......Oh, I'm sorry Adrian but we have to start giving Toby the lionshare of the touches. You don't tell that to a guy who runs like a beast. That said, Toby is no withering flower either when it comes to running the football. Do you think all these defenders in college simply rolled over when they saw Toby coming at them? He was thee beast in college and should have won the Heisman. Ironically he won the Doak Walker as being the best RB in the country and Ingraham (also a RB) won the Heisman. I'm saying all that to say this.........let's just hold onto our critical assessment of TG on what he will or won't do until at least mid season. IMO........(if he stays healthy) and they get solid play out of the OL (and a decent passing game)...Toby Gerhart will make believers out of all of you. I followed this guy's career all the way back to high school as a sophomore because I lived in that area. As a "sophomore" he dominated other teams. He was, and is a great RB given the chance to play and be the feature. His talents are obvious, but it's his mental approach to the game and his skill set that amazes me. He absolutely has a very strong will to be the best and I for one have NO DOUBT he will be (if he stays healthy). Good post gaj.
I have high hopes for Gerhart, he's definitely a big upgrade over the current MJD.

I have high hopes for Gerhart as well, but I think 1,500 yards rushing and 2,000 total yards is being a bit overly optimistic.

I think MJD will be better than Gerhart next year, but I still like the pick up.

Based off what? He did nothing last year of note.
Gerhart will rush for a 1000 plus.

This.  With the caveat that he can stay healthy.  There's no reason to think that he can't but he's never had to carry the load for an entire season.  With that said, if he does stay healthy he will outpace MJD pretty easily.

MJD was 75% at best last year due to Injuries .. He is back to his normal training Routine now & anytime he has been healthy he has produced strong seasons.
