Quote:Hahaha well you better get used to him getting 60% or more my friend.

I certaintly hope not. At this point I think we need to consider a platoon type of situation, as nobody currently on the roster can handle the load.

U don't need a guy to handle the load in Nfl anymore just split carries like Todman and Mjd did 2nd half of season.

How do you know that none of the RBs can handle the load?

I like the signing.

I like backs with versatility and both Gear Heart and Todman can catch and run so the defense won't be able to know what play is coming by which one of them is in the game.

Might even be able to have both on the field and split one into the slot.

The possibilities... :woot:

Viking fans loved the guy.  Most say he was very good when he got the chance.  Stuck behind AP would be hard for any rb

What I really like is that he obviously has potential and shown some good ability. He has a CHANCE to be a 1000 yard back and if he isn't good enough... On to the next one

He's better than I was giving him credit for when this news first broke.

Yeah I'm really interested in what he can do. Vikings fans loved the guy.
I do hope we draft a RB as well. This class is extremely deep and there should be starting caliber backs available in the mid rounds.
Quote:The only concern I'd have after watching that reel is while he moves quick for a big man, he's still slow/ upright enough that he just seems like an ACL waiting to happen, with a bigger workload. Hope I am wrong.

Your boy Jennings might be the most upright runner I've seen in recent years.
DiRicco indicates that the team wants to bring MJD back.

"The addition of Gerhart, who according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport agreed to a three-year deal with $10.5 million ($4.5 million guaranteed), doesn’t necessarily close the door on Maurice Jones-Drew’s return. The team is still interested in bringing him back, but it obviously would be in a role in which he gets significantly fewer carries than he has since he became the team’s feature back in 2009."
Quote:If Robinson progresses as I think he will they will be a great combo. Gerhart should be the "lead" back of the two with DRob as the 3rd down and spell back. Split touches something along like 13 for Gerhart and 9 for DRob and maybe like 4-5 for a rookie.

I'll agree with your rationale but I think it's going to be Gerhert/Todman with 4-5 carries for DRob.
Quote:I like him as a power back in a power running scheme.

We are a zone blocking scheme.  I would think we need a quicker back.

But welcome, Gerhart.
Gerhart isn't a burner but lets not act like he's slow. He ran a 4.5 and is probably a bit faster than that.
Quote:Fair deal for both sides. Didn't break the bank, got a nice situational RB who has low mileage.
1300 yards rushing is career, not single-season.

This is Fisch needing a fat back to block for his run and shoot offense. He's not coming here to be a feature back. This is going to look pretty comical next season.

Maurice is gone, BTW.

I like the pick up. He is a old school back with no wear n tear on his body. He can get us the tough one or two yards and will be a good goal line back. Time to run that rock like we did in the old days.
Low mileage guy who can move the chains. Not an every down back. Has ability to catch the ball out of the backfield and is quicker than most guys that size. Has the size to move the pile. A couple other teams were after him. A lot of positives, including plenty of love for his game from Vikes fans. That said, show me on Sunday. And we need to draft another RB.
How is Gerhart in pass protection and pass catching?   Anyone know?

Why is it that I automatically lean toward liking a new player when they use "DUVAL!"?

Some would call those his biggest strengths. At worst he is adept.

Because it shows they've done their homework.
He looks good, but he isn't going to be effective until we fill those holes in the offensive line.
