Quote:1300 yards rushing is career, not single-season.

This is Fisch needing a fat back to block for his run and shoot offense. He's not coming here to be a feature back. This is going to look pretty comical next season.

Maurice is gone, BTW.
Are you ever happy about anything? I have never seen you both anything positive about this team. Granted there are not many positives during the season because we have sucked the past 3 years but right now there should be just a liiiiiiitle optimisim.

Stop being such a cry baby.

For real. It's kind of sad actually. Imagine being like that?

...makes me thankful for who I am
Admittedly, I know very little about the Jags but that will change now that one of my favorite players has signed. I suspect fans on here don't know much about Toby gerhart other than what you may have seen or heard up in Vikings land. Trust me when I say there is alot more to him than meets the eye. I have been following his career since he was a sophomore in high school at Norco. i lived in that area at the time and I can tell you even then...you could tell he was gonna be special. When he went to Stanford........they were a train wreck. They had a terrible offense so he saw little action. As a sophomore, he got hurt his second game "after" gaining 149 yards and was finished for the season. His junior year was a 'glimpse" of things to come and Stanford was rebuilding in all the right places. In his senior "summer press media blitz for the PAC12" very few coaches raved about this kid. EVERYONE was talking about Javid Best and this is where the Pete Carroll / Jim Harbaugh fued got started. Harbaugh BOLDLY predicted great things out of his team for the upcoming season and I boldly predicted that come December, Toby Gerhart would be in NYC at the Heisman awards. I JUST knew it and sent an email to his dad (whose a HS coach at Norco telling him so). Sure enough, we all know how that all ended. he should have won the Heisman because he won the Doalk Walker award as the best RB and ironically a RB one the heisman (go figure). On to the pros.......playing behind the best RB in the league did not do TG's career much good other than keep him fairly fresh. When he did play, he was good........not off the charts good, but good anyways. Why am I saying all this? For those who don't know this kid, it's his intangibles that make him special. yeah..he's got talent, but it's his will that seperates him from others. You mark my word, (if) he stays healthy and the Jags build up the OL (which it seems they want to) this kid will make a BIG impact not only on this team but will surprise alot of the NFL folks too. Like I said, (if he can stay healthy) and they get their OL up and running, Jaguar fans will be most pleasantly surprised. Yes........He's that GOOD! You just haven't seen much of it because of the beast known as AP.

Quote:I hope our OLine is really good,

I guess Dave did the right thing with Monroe trade, because Jaguars couldnt afford one of the best OL in the league.

The Ravens and Monroe have officially agreed on a new deal. Ian Rapoport reported the contract is worth $37.5 million over five years
are you being sarcastic?  we have the most cap room of anyone in the league.. we most certainly could have afforded monroe, and should have tried to keep him in my opinion and fielded a top notch offensive line

Monroe doesn't fit the Zone Blocking Scheme.

No sure if people watched Monroe last year. He played pretty poorly.
I see the Gerhart signing very similar to when we signed MJD.

Folks were questioning if he could handle the full load, but most were still excited about it.  I see the same opportunity to shine as the feature back just as MJD did when given the opportunity.  Hard working, easy guy to like and root for.

Fisch just said (jaguars.com/live)  that he feels good about out running game with "Gerhart, Todman, D-Rob, and Ta'ufo'au."

Sounds like they intend to feature Gerhart with Todman/Robinson spelling, IMO.
Ewwwwww
Good give Toby a shot.. let's see what he makes of it.

He's got great hands catching the ball out of the backfield.

(Tried to post a vid that showed 5 or 6 catches but link died)

I like this signing. He reminds me of Peyton Hillis; not quite fullback-big but with enough mass and speed to become a nasty bruising gasher if given a few steps to build momentum.
this is a great pick up imo... nobody in the league would have a shot at starting over ap so i think its hard to gauge how good he really is based off anything that happened in minn... i think he will be able to carry the load and help make the transition to life without MJD a little more seamless... i liked him coming out of stanford but knew he wasnt gonna get a legit shot to prove himself with a guy like ap on the roster.... nice work Dave, keep em coming

i was talking about that with a guy at my work... big diff imo is he went to stanford so, if stereotypes hold true, he woln't be as stupid as hillis lol...i thought peyton was gonna be amazing after his first season in cleveland, then iirc all that crap happen in KC with him not being able to grasp the playbook and his career took a dive.
this move allows us not to pull the trigger on a running back in the draft, but at the same time if a back falls that we really like then we can still get him playing time.  win win signing.

like others have mentioned, this signing reminds me of our own MJD or turner.  guys who backed up great runnings back and went on to a feature role.  was dave on the staff in atlanta when they signed turner? (it was 2008, when they drafted their franchise QB with the third overall pick. hmmmm - plus dave was on the staff)

a lot is made of the 'seahawk like moves' made, but this is a VERY falcon like move made.  the parallels are clear.

turner had ~1200 yards and 6 touchdowns before becoming a feature back.  gerhart has 1300 yards and 5 touchdowns.  (both in 4 years behind a future HOF back).

This is a good signing. Very consistent guy. I imagine that we will not have an every down "feature" back. Will be a committee backfield. Which can be good. Garhart is a Jack of all Trades back. Won't rush for 1k yards, but he will be valuable in check downs and pass blocking. My predictions are 650yds rushing 4 tds 300 yds receiving 2tds. Somewhere around a 4.0 yds/carry average. Will make the most impact blocking on 3rd downs

Yes, mainly because of the scheme we switched to.

The scheme we switched to is also very good for Gerhart. The Vikings run the same thing, and he's a very north/south runner and has exceptional vision.

no way, toby will have a 1,000 yard season for sure.  he might even approach 10 touchdowns.

we havent had one(other than mojo) in a while but have tryed to use shifty guys like they are up the middle backs... deji karim and robinson are the first two who pop into my head... those guys were misused IMO...those guys arent gonna break loose through the middle but ill be damned if we didnt slam them up the gut over and over... gerhart, like u said, is a north and south"hit the hole hard" type back that gives us the abilty to keep that smash mouth style we used with mjd in our playbook.
I'm not a Gerhart fan but I trust what Caldwell is doing. A lot of RBs can look good relieving AP in the Vikings offense. Anyone ever heard of Matt Asiata? Instead of people saying they don't like Gerhart, how about stating who you wanted more.

I will go first: Andre Brown

Also the Shoelace hype is only hype at this point. I see Gerhart being a good 1-2 punch but I really hope we aren't counting on this slow developing 5th round pick project. I would trade a late pick for Sproles to be the other part of that punch. Pierre Thomas just got extended so Sproles will be cut and available soon if we don't want to give up a "ham sandwich".
