Quote:I know why, because while he has his impressive games, there are too many stretches of ordinary or "meh" on his footage.
I just hope when we get him, he's not another Gabbert.
I wouldn't worry about that. His pocket presence isn't on par with Bridgewater, but it's no where near as bad as Gabbert.
If you break it down to its simplest form, Bridgewater, Bortles or Manziel would all be a significant upgrade over our current QB situation.

If he had stretches of ordinary or "meh" then so did Bridgewater.
Quote:I was comparing his draft stock rather than his play, He's not worth a first round pick, go watch him play.
I've watched him play several games this year. (Have to as my wife is a UCF Alum)
I've been very happy with what I've seen. I thought he would go in the late 1st early 2nd round. But if we as fans expect him to fall that much with all the QB hungry teams out there we are delerious.
I think the only QBs worth taking are Teddy, Blake and Manziel. After that it's all projects like Boyd, Mettenberger and McCarron. We don't need to east time on projects. If there's a Gabbert in this draft it's Carr, he has looks scared in the few games I watched at the end if the season.
I'm taking Manziel/Bridgewater 10 times out of 10 over Bortles.
Quote:Tell me what you like about him, please.
Tough to tackle in the pocket, keeps eyes up, throws a good deep ball, improved each year, has the arm, elevates his game late. HE makes everyone around him better which is one of the most important traits.
Has he improved over the course of the year?
The more I watch Brotles (lol)..........the more I like him

Couldn't agree more with everything you just said. I know Caldwell has to blow smoke so he can increase his chances of getting his guy but he better be ready to pull the trigger on one of the 3 when we are on the clock.

Bolded especially, I watched a couple Bortles games from 2012 and can say he definitely took a big step as a QB in 2013.
Quote:Does anyone believe ST. Louis may stay put and pick a QB? I know the scenario of them trading down or picking up Matthews has been common. Bradford is not really that great...
I think they will give Sam Bradford another year and they may pick a QB in the mid rounds, there are some solid guys on the board there
I like this for several reasons:
1. I like Bortles as a prospect.
2. Better chance Teddy isn't picked by Houston, still think he will be though.
3. Three QBs on the board means that Cleveland may not panic and leapfrog us to draft one at #2.

He keeps getting better. And I see a lot of upside with his passing game. He is big and agile and quick which can't always be coached (especially the height....lol)

I hope so then. Will leave the Jags with some good options then...But if say Manziel and Bridgwater were picked 1-2 then I would have to go Clowney over Bortles.....

He'll be more than ready......more of a concern is the later rounds......we need some big "hits"

Yes Yes to #3
LOL, "improved each year"??.....
don't most if not all QB prospects not named Gabbert do this over their collegiate career???
He's extremely strong mechanically, typically makes good decisions, seems to have the clutch gene and is extremely physically gifted.
Listened to one of the draft gurus (was either McShay or Kiper) a couple weeks back. The guy stated that there are at least 7 teams that would highly covet a starting caliber QB from this draft. There are not 7 day one projected QB starters in this draft, which will, like many past drafts, create a frenzy by teams to get one of the better prospects (trade up and/or reach).
If Bortles declares for the draft, it is only good for the Jags and pick #3. By another quality QB coming into the draft, the value of pick number 3 would go up. Caldwell can make a selection, and the odds of getting a good trade offer for the pick also becomes an option.

No they don't. Maybe statistically but, not all of them improve throwing to different areas of the field, throwing from different arm platforms, improve on pocket mobility, and start making smarter decisions.
