Quote:it's not a complicated argument. You wouldn't say Northern Illinois deserves it because they went undefeated. Id sill gave the nod to a one loss Big ten, ACC, SEC team over them. it's the same argument. a 1 loss SEC team is probably better than a big 10 undefeated. history has proven that.
Clay Travis summed it up nicely....
1. Put simply, voters -- and probably committee members -- are idiots.
Unlike every other sport in America where we reward teams for playing competitive schedules and the toughest games possible, in college football we reward the pretty record, even if it comes against inferior competition.
So what if Auburn's got the best combination of the top record and the toughest schedule?
Which the Tigers indisputably do.
Auburn's strength of schedule is at 26, Missouri's is 41, Ohio State is 61 and FSU is 65.
We actually don't care about strength of schedule at all.
If you're in a major conference in college football, we just miraculously eliminate the schedule component.
If you finish undefeated you play for the title.
2. But if you don't play in a top five conference then the schedule analysis reemerges as a disqualifying factor.
It's enough to make small conference football fans pull out their hair in furious anger.
South Florida has a tougher schedule than either Florida State or Ohio State. UConn has played a better schedule than FSU and one spot worse than Ohio State.
Would South Florida or UConn be playing for the BCS title if either was undefeated right now?
Of course not.
Why?
Because of the weakness of their schedule.
So why should FSU and Ohio State play for a BCS title when they've both played weaker schedules?
Put simply, they shouldn't.

Very true. While factored in, the strength of schedule isn't enough of a factor. That prettier record will win all the time.
I listened to Tim Brando while at work this afternoon, and as expected on cue, the moronic Auburn (SEC fans) think that if Auburn wins, it should be Auburn/Alabama in the CG.
Im quickly losing any respect I have left for these clowns and losers who keep bantering about this.
If the SEC champ doesn't go to the NC, then the entire system is broken.
Quote:NIU is not in a BCS conference, so it can't be used in your argument. Unlike Boise State a few years ago, NIU was never ranked in the top five this season. Nobody is saying a MAC team should get in the BCS NCG.
In 2007, the only undefeated FBS team was Hawaii. The BCS should have put two one-loss teams in the NCG, not one with two losses. And yes, there were one-loss teams in other conferences.
it is still the same argument. the MAC is not technically a bcs conference, but its still the same argument why they don't deserve to play for the title; their schedule is too easy

Auburn won't win though. Go look at all the upsets this year and see what those teams did the following games. Auburn is not only outmatched imo, they will come out flat due to the upset hangover.
i mean, this Bama upset was more than just an upset. it was crazy. they are going to lose, so they should focus on Missouri instead of worrying about the NC
i listened to Finebaum. im pretty sure most auburn fans want FSU or Ohio state, not Bama again

Don't be surprised if it happens. The media positioned Alabama perfectly to where they can backdoor their way in to their third straight title game.
IMO Missouri is the toughest match up for FSU. They would beat Ohio St. and Auburn.

that could only happen if Auburn loses and OSU or FSU lose.... screwing over Missouri who should hop Bama in that scenario but likely wouldnt. making a Bama vs FSU or OSU scenario
If both FSU and OSU lose, then that opens the door for another all SEC NC. i dont want that though. in that case i would have it be SEC champ vs Mich st or OK st
lets be real though. duke isn't winning. it's a layup for fsu

Please God no. We don't need a repeat of snoozefest that was LSU-Alabama.

i think either Bama or Missouri are the toughest. i agree auburn would get beat by FSU. I cant see OSU beating anybody in a NC

like i said, its so unlikely. OSU could easily lose, but FSU is a 30 point fav

Who is Clay Travis? Is he one of those SEC drones who calls in to those SEC shows hungover talking about why a team with 1 loss should play for a championship over an undefeated team?

I heard if Mizzou wins, it should be Mizzou vs Bama.

Ive had to turn ESPN off alot today they are devoting 20 min a show to explain their case.
Quote:Very true. While factored in, the strength of schedule isn't enough of a factor. That prettier record will win all the time.
Then why did 2-loss LSU get in the NCG instead of the Big 12 champ?
Quote:I think either Bama or Missouri are the toughest. I agree Auburn would get beat by FSU. I can't see OSU beating anybody in a NC
The winner of the SEC Championship Game is the one with a better chance of beating FSU. I think #3 Auburn is the favorite there.
Ohio State can get into a shootout with Auburn or Missouri.
I think Mizzou wins. They have a better scoring average, better defensive scoring average, and better team sacks than Auburn. They throw 3 six-four receivers at you and a 3 headed monster in the run game. Their defensive front 4 are the best in the conference and Michael Sam is a monster.
I think they will jump Alabama too, because their BCS ranking is only 11-thousandths behind Alabama and another win will propel them over Alabama who will have one less win. But there's always that Alabama bias in the voters polls. Nonetheless, if Alabama , a non-participant in the championship game) gets the nod over the Conference Champion then there is no point in playing the conference champion game.

There is no reason a team that did not play in its conference's championship game should play for the national championship.
