If we can bolster the guards with the 4th and 5th and joeckel and patzor can be our tackle combo of the future I call that good business it's 2 solid linemen for 1

I would say this if patzor was out training joeckel at Rt which considering his play is possible trading Monroe was his best option

That said it opens questions about the draft policy even though I am delighted we didn't take Jordan at 2
We need to draft a G/C not from Lehigh, hit free agency to strengthen what remains and our OL will be in shape for next year.

Quote: After this year when Monroe would have walked we get nothing. This way we get two draft choices...2 for 0 sounds like a good trade.

Yep

Quote:The tag for a LT is probably more than he is worth

And yep.

The deal was fair market value for a guy that had 10 games remaining as a Jag.  Caldwell got a fair deal, and that's all I expect.  Somehow expecting Herschel Walker trade terms for Monroe is unrealistic and unreasonable.
Quote:Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers would beg to differ

I bet this morning Rodgers wouldn't mind that above average line :whistling:
I like the trade.. our line has gotten better so there's no reason to complain tbh.

Eugene Monroe top 8

Not to mention this article was in February before his dismal season started, and it is infact someones opinion.

Eugene Monroe top 8

Bleacher Report...lol
It's working out pretty well for the Jags.  Let's say Pasztor cements the RT spot and Bradfield is retained as a valuable backup.  Joekel returns and is the fixture at LT.  Okay, we're pretty well set at OT then.  That means the extra 4th and 5th round picks can be used to solidify the interior OL.

Without the Monroe trade, we finish the season with Joekel out of position at RT, we lose Monroe for a compensatory pick in 2015, then maybe Pasztor never gets discovered and we waste a high 2014 pick on a RT and never fix the interior.

Quote:Our Eugene Monroe?  You mean that dude that was our LT that we traded for a 4th and a 5th?  Man I hope we get some good payoff for that trade.

Don't care if we got the 1st pick in the 4th and 1st pick in the 5th guaranteed, it was still a head scratching move---AT THE TIME IT WAS MADE

With that said, if Caldwell can play his cards right and it turns into peices that ensure our franchise I will laude it as a genius move.  As of now...  I'm still scratching my head.

It does seem odd that the OP is flip flopping so quickly.  I wonder if possibly someone hacked his account...

How is it flip flopping? I still hold the opinion that I believe the situation was mismanaged, and a better deal was probably "out there" but we rushed into this one.

All I am trying to do is look at it the best I can at this point as the above, although I still believe it, is pretty much water under the bridge.

Speaking of accounts, I wonder how many you have. You sound like one of my stalkers from the past.

And you continue to sound delusional.

you misspelled perceptive.
Quote:Based on the fact that Monroe was widely regarded as a top 10 OLT heading into this season, thats what.

Thats a premium position and a player that is still young. Sorry, but thats worth more than just a 4th & a 5th.

I see this claim a lot. You're not the only one to say it in this tread.

As someone who doesn't follow line play, please provide proof of his ranking. At the time of the trade I heard all kinds of opinions regarding his ranking from the talking heads. many of them didn't have him ranked in the top 10.

I challenge you to find a credible site or talking head that had him ranked outside of the top 10 prior to this season.
No "credible" site even makes "top 10" lists, to be clear.

Fact is, he's never made the pro bowl or even been an alternate to the pro bowl in 5 years.  In the NFL over that time span there have been many pro bowlers and alternates, and he has never been considered to be the top.  I say he's a "pretty good" LT...

You guys love using the probowl to justify players value, that's funny.

Ha ha! So now having a memory is defined as stalking? You are too much!!

I appreciate the attempt at looking at the trade with hope, my question to you is simply one of sincerity... if you really see the positive, I applaud your ability to change your mind... if you are hedging you bets, then yeah, I'm calling you on it...

Like I said, for me it's still a head scratcher of a trade, wish e held on to Monroe longer, but I'm hoping we can parlay this into strong contributors... but I have my concerns about it.

The pro bowl uses player votes, coaches votes, as well as fan votes.  It's actually a much better measure of quality than what the freakin Bleacher report writes.

It's not perfect, but it's a good measure.

David Garrard was a pro bowler....

The pro bowl's a joke and I've never referred to the Bleacher report to back up anything I've EVER said. I just can't believe people put real value on pro bowl selections, I guess to each his own.
